Buying wheels for 1985 GSL
Hi everyone, as you can see I have a 1988 GXL. My roomate however has a 1985 GSL and he's looking for wheels and tires. Apparently his bolt pattern is really rare, and not many shops have wheels that will fit (I think it's like 4 X 114.3 or something weird like that). Anyway, I know someone else out there must have had the same problem, so can anyone please let me know what decent-looking wheels to buy and where?
I think he wants to have 14" or 15", not really interested in anything bigger. Thanks! P.S. if you can supply pictures as well, that would be great, becasue he's open to just about anything at this point! OH YEAH, specs on his car: 1985 RX-7 GSL, 4-wheel disc brakes |
Theres a few choices. Panasport makes wheels that fit in many sizes.
http://www.panasport.com/ Heres 2 that tire rack sells. http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_gara...5&autoModClar= |
He's got a 4 X 110 bolt pattern, which is the rare one. The 4 X 114.3 is extremely common.

Thanks, but I've already been to these sites and the wheels offered are a little too rich for his blood. Both of us work in the Mazda parts department of Cardinale Mazda here in Salinas, and our sales dept. has a close relationship with a tire shop here in town where we can also get aftermarket wheels. My roomate knows that he can get a wheel/tire ackage for fairly cheap, so he's holding that above everything else. He also bought this near-perfect car for only $300, so it doesn't really make sense to spend $1000+ on wheels.
Thanks again, but I was kind of hoping maybe someone has pictures and strories of how they did it? |

Ebay is a good route or the parts for sale section in this forum. $x110 just aren't out there.

With black spokes and a polished lip kosei's would look great on a silver FB.

The LE Factory wheels look nice. You can see a set in the site in my sig.

There are sometimes used wheels for sale here, although most people seem to be wanting new because I've had a set for sale for almost a month now. Check out the classifieds because there are usually a few sets.

There is an Australian Company called Simmons wheels (http://www.simmonswheel.com.au/) that do 3 piece modulal wheels for RX7s.
They have 2 distributors in the US so are readilly availiable to you (details on their web site) Simmons wheels are very popular with RX fans in Australia. Because the wheels consists of 3 pieces (the face plate, the inner rim and the outer rim) they can be made to totally fill out the guards without rubbing. They do face plates for both 4x110 (GSL) and 4x114.3 (GSL-SE) I am currenlty saving up for a set for my 84 Series 3. Here is a picture of another Australian Series 3 with 17 inch Simmon OEM (7 inch front, 8 inch rear) that I got from the Australian Rotary Forum site (http://ausrotary.dntinternet.com/forums/index.php) http://members.dodo.net.au/~sokolowski/images/net1.JPG http://members.dodo.net.au/~sokolowski/images/net4.JPG http://members.dodo.net.au/~sokolowski/images/net3.JPG |
