"butterfly" in the intake mani?

In my intake manifold there is a butterfly (like the think in the carb that open with the gas peddal) Is this normal?

Paradox 04-14-06 02:24 AM

uhh?

what model/engine/etc?

sounds entirely normal to me.

Randokuky 04-14-06 02:33 AM

SuperRotorMan 04-14-06 02:34 AM

mine was stuck shut, i dont know about yours tho, anyway i just removed it and after i did i could swear i felt a hella difference in the way my car drove.

Randokuky 04-14-06 12:43 PM

yeah i think mine is stuck, ill be removing it today. are they hard to remove?

inuissus_cendi 04-14-06 12:50 PM

nope, as long as you have a small screwdriver and maybe a drill (the tiny screw on mine just wouldnt come out). Also get some JB weld (assuming you dont have a real welder) to close up the holes it'll leave behind. Mazda really was into putting random useless crap in these cars.

oldsk00l 04-14-06 12:56 PM

anyone have a picture of a before and after?

Tranquil 04-14-06 03:09 PM

Its really best to JB Weld it open.

Mazda designed the intake around that valve for fuel economy. If you remove it it will mess with the velocity of the airflow.
