what's my best bet?

- victoria british stock replacement rotors (~$50 each)

-ebay brake rotors ($65-80 for 2)

what's the deal with the ebay brake rotors? has anyone purchased them? they can't be very good quality if you get 2 drilled and slotted rotors for that cheap. I was thinking about the powerslot rotors too, and i'm sure they're good, but they seem a bit expensive and unecessary.

so is drilling/ slotting rotors even worth it on cars? the brakes are already vented, and i'm sure they'd work just fine with some performance pads and fluid. I'm leaning more toward the stock replacements, but i'd like to see a little input from you guys.

My opinion. Drilled rotors comprimise the strucural integrity of the rotor by going all the way through and removing material. Drilled rotors are known to crack under high preformance use, I've seen a few. Ebay + drilled rotors, crap with crap.

Power Slotted rotors are one of my favs. Providing a chamber for the gas to escape through without completely compromising the stregnth. Coupled with some decent pads and you've got urself a decent (way better than stock) stopping system.

Stock rotors are good for budget project and just general restoration. If I couln't get the power slotted ones, the stock would be my best choice.

You asked for them so I gave you my ideas/opinions.

i've been looking at ebay rotors for the past few weeks, seems there is more for the SA's than FB's. anyways i emailed a few companies and am going to try some by a company called "forum" out of CA. they have many options as to what you want, slotted, drilled or both. also they do free zinc coating.

as for the entire drilled warping cracking thing, maybe with cheap rotors that happens but i've run brembo x-drilled / slotted rotors on my supra for the past 4 years with no problems in warping or cracking, just dont go through a car wash when your rotors are red hot :D

I got some OEM replacements made by Brembo. They're pretty good, but I haven't really pushed them to the edge or anything, so I don't know exactly how good.

from buybrakes.com is that price for one rotor or both the fronts? it doesnt specify...

i have the powerslot rotors... huge improvement over my cracked rotors. i was gankin the e-brake for a week and downshifting to slow down cuz it was so bad

well, i think anything would be better than cracked rotors :)

who's got the non- DOT approved racing beat ss brake lines? i was thinking of getting those as well. Do you get the chassis to axle line as well with their 79-80 option?

IMHO ss brake lines are a fad, they don't help you stop 1" better, they just allow a bit better pedal feel as they don't swell when brake fluid is pressurized by the master cylinder.

They also hide any cracks in the rubber lining beneath the ss cover.

i just bought a bunch of stuff of buybrakes.com....they totally rock, fast shipping and great prices...i got two up front brembo rotors(like two bucks cheaper than tirerack and if shipping is still free for orders over 100 then your set) i also bouight hawk brake pads and some ss brake lines...................no need for slotted rotors i think, i really wanted them but what for? autocrossers use stock setup with ss lines and better pads (miatas at least), i think we want it just for the cool factor

I bought the rotors from www.rockauto.com. They seem to be identical to the ones I replaced.

And, some totally cool person was nice enough to put up this month's rockauto discount code in the lounge. That guy is the fucking best!

I tried to order the Power Slots from Racing Beat a couple of months ago and they told me that they were discontinued, not available. So, I tried to get them from a local part shop, and they said the same thing. oh, for a 84 GSL-SE.

I had the same issue with the power slots being discontinued. I ordered the cryo ones from ebay and the seller after a month said they were discontinued.

I did buy some from ebay and will look for the link and post it. They are slotted and crossed drilled. I have not istalled them yet but they appear to be of good quality.

Next time I am just getting the slotted version.

agree with you on the fact that they don't help you stop any better, but my pedal is very squishy and imprecise- it goes more than halfway down before anything happens.

The problem is, nobody has DOT approved ones for SA's with rear drums. Sometimes, i really wish i had an FB. I guess, i'll just get racingbeat non-DOT ones, with stock rotors, and maybe some hawk pads.

Speaking of drums, anyone know of any "performance" brake shoes? Other than Porterfield, I can really find anything other than the $20 generic ones from parts stores.
