brake master cylinder
 

I just ordered a clutch slave and MC kit for my car. I figured since i redid all my calipers and rubber lines with stainless from respeed, i should rebuild my brake MC as well. So i looked up autozone for a rebuild kit and the website says they are NLA. I then saw a new remain MC is only $28, i called them and they cant get those either. now what do i do? its for an 83 gsl car with 4 wheel disc.

Have you tried rockauto.com? I've ordered a lot of parts from them for my '79 RX7 and they have been reliable and quick to ship.

I found one at advance. I guess when Autozone didn't have it I freaked and asked you guys lol they even priced matched!

Both Autozone and O'reilly's (now that they ruined Kragen) have been dropping rapidly in my estimation... almost down to Pep Boys levels of unhelpfulness & lack of stock.

I'm still kindof a fan of the zone. I hate napa... Autozone just got me a clutch master and slave kit for less than $25 combined. And I happen to know someone that does parts sourcing there and I get their discount. One time what I got was half off!

nobody stocks parts anymore, the first to go were the dealerships, recently the second are the main depots!

^Very true. Unless its something that I know my local auto parts store will have (which is very little) I don't even bother trying. I just buy online and have it delivered...

I just got my GSL-SE out of storage for winter and I think the brake master cylinder needs
replacing. There was a puddle underneath it and it was low on brake fluid. Does it matter what
brand of brake cylinder I get or any brands to avoid? Are rebuilt ones good enough or should I
buy a new one?

I did the same things
 

I did the same things when I rebuilt my brake system. I bought:

1) Replaced all rubber hoses with SS 5 in all. You can feel it in the new system, the new lines don't expand at all, the brake peddle feels rock solid.

2) Bought all new calipers.

3) Bought ceramic brake pads

4) Bought new master cylinder from Autozone on line I believe. Cheap insurance to go new. I also replaced my clutch master and slave cylinders with new parts although I still carry my slave rebuild kit which has saved me at least twice in the past.

5) I think it was Ebay but I bought four new, dimpled and slotted rotors with the GSL-SE bolt pattern and they fit perfect. I know I bought them from sales@brakelabs.com although I might have found them on Ebay and they were cheaper than new and fit perfect.

I didn't buy them with the ceramic pads included. These brakes are awesome, great stopping power, no squeal and it appears, no fade although I didn't test them too hard. I have no financial or any other type of relationship with this company other than purchasing parts from them.

6) I'm using silicone brake fluid as it has higher boiling point, doesn't ruin paint and it isn't hygroscopic. It is harder to bleed but it's worth the $40 for a mityvac to help brake bleeding.

You definitely want to buy a mityvac if you don't have one. No need for a second person to bleed brakes and with silicone fluid, it makes it easier.
