bought my SE parts car - need info

I have a complete SE minus the block and want to make a list of what would be a good idea to snag. I need the tranny and want the suspension, so I'll drop the whole rear end, driveshaft, tranny, and front suspension. Is the power steering rack worth taking and will it bolt right into a 12A car? Also, it's got a RB full exhaust that I was gonna snag for when I pick up a 13B block. What else is a good idea to snag?

Any interior piece that is in good condition.

No such thing as a rack in the 1st gen... Not stock anyway...

The steering box should be compatable.

SE FRONT STRUTS AND BREAKS AND REAREND AND SUSPENSION FIRST THING!

I thought power steering was an SE option. With the suspension swap, how much do I leave on the car? This is gonna be a one-man show and I live in an apartment, so I've got to plan things as well as possible beforehand. How easy is it to drop the axle and to take the front end? Do I leave the tie rods and steering in the 12A car? What about the springs and everything?

i dropped the axels in both my car and my old parts car and put the se rearend all by myself

it wasent hard at all

probabaly dumb question but when u say se rearend, what do u mean?

MarkPerez 10-06-03 11:29 AM

Power steering was an option on the -SE's . you want everything !!! even the gas tank, taillights,ECU,wheels, oil cooler, radiator,brake/clutch masters, steering box, etc. I would also say the doner car is going to end up on blocks, so maybe not doing the work at the apt. parking lot. then there's storage ,,where to store the parts ?? because it's not gonna happen in one day, being a one man show, you know ? wd-40 all pieces before you even start for some easy wrenching. The whole rearend means from disk to disk and everything in between including the driveshaft.

get the porportioning valve and break master fromthe se... you want it for the se suspension swap...

Gregs 10-06-03 11:44 AM

i have found no difference in the proportionig valve and master cyl in the se and in my 81

they are identical and have the same markings and numbers on them

The donor will be on blocks elsewhere, after sweet-talking the mother-in-law. I can keep a few days worth of parts in the truck as I work my way through, so hopefully I can do it in a week or two. I've got Ground Control springs and sway bars - can I reuse them? Also, how much of the front suspension needs to be removed? I saw one writeup in the archives but the pictures have since disappeared.

Why do I want the gas tank out of the SE? If they're different, is it a direct bolt-in?

MarkPerez 10-06-03 02:39 PM

Because a 13b(t) requires a better fuel system, pump, hardline from tank to engine, it's larger diameter.
Plus it's a better tank, screw-on plate, and a sump/baffle trust me, you'll need it later, and they are hard to find. also the lug nuts should stay with the hubs.
Yes, same straps, bolts right in.
