Blaster 2 coils are in!!
and KICKING ASS!!!! total difference, i guess one was messed up before!
yes, theyre sitting horizontally. and yes, theyre oil filled... and yes, i know they MIGHT leak. |
Congrats!!
How much did they set you back MIDNFauciUSN? |
Mine are sitting in the stock location, and have never leaked so far! Congrats!
|
Now do the 2nd gen coils swap and you'll be in good shape.

they were 70 bucks for both from advance |
lol, I wasnt kidding.

i have been running MSD coils for almost a year in the stock location and have had zero leaking.
i am also using a 2nd gen coil for the leading, it made a great improvement as well. so sale one of the MSD coils and get a 2nd gen coil. |
I use the MSD blaster 2 "vibration" coils- you can mount them anyway you like.
|
What makes an FC coil better than an after market performance one?
|
iono... it just looks out of place to me... thats why i dont want it.
|
My MSD blaster 2 coils crapped out after about 3 years. I would rev up in the drive way and flames were shooting out the exhaust. Swear to god. Swapped over to a FC leading coil and no flames, and afr's were leaner. I dont know why, I called MSD tech line and spoke with their rotary specialist, yes they have one and he has a T2. He runs a MSD 6AL with a FC leading coil, so thats what I am running now.
I am sure they are great for a few years, just remember in three years they might go bad, real bad. Though the flame were pretty cool. |
Yeah,, I've always wondered about this,,,, why run the 2nd gen coil if you already have aftermarket's like msd?? I am curious because I already bought the two msd coils and 6al , but am debating now whether or not I should use em.

There has been many write ups on this mod, w/ Jeff20b writing one of the most detailed "how to's" on this very subject. I to was once a doubter of the 2nd gen coil mod but after trying it for a few days now I gotta say there is a huge advantage over the MSD set and one is cost! 2nd would be simplicity of the install and 3rd is the ability to go back to stock w/ in minutes if needed.

i needed a new coil my trailing coil was leaking, i was going to order the msd blaster 2 coils that are meant for off road, the one's that you can mount any which way ect.
this guys thats a cool shit at advance asked me why i wanted those insteed of the regular blaster 2 coils. i told him about mounting them in the stock place ect. the guy told me to go with the normle blaster 2 coils. he said if i have any problems ect he would just give me the othere msd coils for trade if i come in when hes there. he only had one coil today. so he sold me that and told me to come back tuesday to get the second one. i said befor my trailing coil was leaking, so what i did for now was put the leading coil in the spot for the trailing and the msd in the leading coil spot. for just replacing one coil i noticed my car starts up with out problems now. i got confused ect reading about the 2nd gen swap. i feel dumb. when i put a sp 12a with a side draft carb in ill probly upgrade again but for now ill rock the 2 msd. and heck if they crap out on me i get a free set of the othere msd coils. thats 40$ ill save if these crap out. |
The search button doesn't seem to want to work for me right now????hhhmmmmm I was wondering which people thought were better in a comparison,,, the second gen coils, or a full msd setup. I already have the entire msd setup ready to go, just needs installed. So money isn't the problem.

I used to have about 5-6 FC leading and trailing coil's with igniter's laying around! Man i wish i still had one! i really want to try this.
