Which is the best workshop manual?

Just got my first car which im proud to say is a 1982 rx7. Been looking around and I cant decide which manual to buy, Chiltons or Haynes. Can you guys please help me decide. I plan to do some fairly serious mods with a view to dropping a 13b in eventually. (way way way down the track in a galaxy far far away).

i got the haynes and it is fantastic
it shows u just about everything u could ever want to know and more.
its been with me from the the very start, been thru petrol, oil, hydrolic fluid, grease, pages have fallen out. and still works like a charm :)

and at the back it even shows how to work on a 13B, like anti-polution rubish, tuning and maintaining..

The Haynes is the best readily available manual. I like it way better than the Chiltons.

The Chiltons only has a section on the RX-7 since it covers several other Mazda cars.

If you can swing the cash, get a hold of the actual Mazda Factory Workshop maunal. It costs something around $100 from Mazdatrix (At least my 1985 did.)

My only gripe about the Mazda Factory manual is that the newer ones (including mine) are reprints, so the pictures suck ass. They're too dark.

I usually refer to both when I need to find something out, and take the Mazda info over the Haynes if I have conflicting information.

I nabbed up a Mitchell On Demand DVD from work since we upgraded to the 2002 disc. I'm working on figuring out how to get it loaded on my machine. That way, I'll have three reference sources.

Pele, whats Mitchell on demand? Is the factory workshop manual better than the other manuals?

Mitchell On Demand is a program available to shops. It comes on a DVD and has repair information, specs, diagrams and whatnot for almost every car out there.

I saved the 1983-2000 DVD from the trash when it was upgraded to the 1983-2001 DVD. We have not as of yet upgraded to the 1983-2002 DVD... Which I might just grab when we get the 1983-2003 DVD...

Yes, the Factory manual is better than the Haynes... BUt at almost 10 times the cost.

The Haynes is based off of someone taking the car apart, by using normal tools. The Factory manual is based off of the people who built the car, sometimes using specialized or expensive tools.

The Haynes also mostly based off of the 1979 Model, with some additions for later models. The Factory will be Year specific.

My picks are as follows:
#1-Factory manual (forget Mazdatrix, buy it off eBay.)
#2-Haynes manual (excellent engine & carb tear-down!)
#3-Glenn's manual (has hop-up mod info!)
#4-Chilton's manual
#5-Clymer manual

Thanks guys, thats exactly what I wanted to know. Do you think there would be enough people to do a bulk buy from somewhere for the factory manual?

What is Glenn's manual????

Thanks.

Whoops, I guess the Glenn's manual I have doesn't cover the RX7, just the earlier rotaries. Sorry 'bout that.
Anyway, it looks like this-
