Best way to move engines around
 

I used to drag engines around my shop, what a pain. Then I went to Redwoods house a couple years ago to pick up parts and I saw the dolly he had for an engine.

here is what I have come up with:

1. a $2.99 office chair from goodwill. It has a steel frame and good wheels. This makes life great. I can roll an engine out of the bed of my truck and roll it up to my engine hoist.

2. a simple dolly, works great and pretty easy to come by.

3. a mulit-engine dolly. It is 4' long and spaced so that 12As and 13Bs both fit on it. This is a great way to store several engines.

Ok, so this is not a miracle, but these do make life easier.

If you get one of the square (not rectangular) plastic milk crates, the oil pan fits right inside with it's edge resting on the edge of the crate, cradling the motor securely. Then you just strap the crate to a 4-wheeled dolly.

I take an old shopping cart and cut off the basket. Works well for everything from a VW diesel to a small-block, also great for trannys.

I bought 4 of those car dollies, the kind that you put under the car wheels so you can push a car around in the shop. They work great for moving engines around, with or without the oil pan.

Those are all great ideas

Good idea. At what point, I was dragging engines around on my creeper.

I use a creeper because it's a lot more stable than a skate board.
