Best sport exhaust for 1st gen
 

that will not burn to a cinder after 3,000 miles?

I have no intention of porting my RX7's engine right now.

Just want a quality, long-lasting exhaust system that sounds mean and understands 600 degree temperatures.

Any suggestions?

Racing Beat, Magnaflow. I'm running RB header, presilencer and magnaflow muffler. Absolutely no problems.

Racing beat all the way to get that stock quality (but 100X better) and look.

i'm not sure what you guys out west need to pass a smog test. i'd guess a converter or two, an air pump, and a clean burning engine. the best of luck to you my friend. perhaps go with a header, a mid pipe or presilencer, a converter, an extention pipe and a muffler with components from racing beat.

I installed a Bonez high flow cat recently, and I like it very much. I plan to install a Bonez or Racing Beat muffler as well.

Installed a Racingbeat muffler yesterday and loving every minute of driving it. The sound is a great improvement from the stock one. I've got plans to install a RB header in the next few weeks.

The Racing Beat exhaust is very easy to install and remove, particularly from a '79 model as you have no catalystic converters to worry about. I would just get your smog test with everything hooked up, pull the smog gear and install the RB exhaust system. Next year replace everything to pass smog and then reinstall the Racing Beat system. You'll just need to buy some new gaskets to freshen up the original system. Remember to buy the block off plates for your intake and carb system as they do not come with the Racing Beat exhaust system. If you pull off the air pump you'll also want a dual belt pully system for the car as running a single belt will usually slip once you pull off the original exhaust.

There are no 50 state legal/certified exhaust systems for the 79 to 85 cars to my knowledge.

You'll want to hold onto all of your original exhaust systems pieces anyway if you ever want to sell the car in a smog controlled area. This includes the rats nest, etc.

In CA we have to have "All" Stock exhaust components on the 7. There are no aftermarket headers for out cars that are CARB exempt. The Bonez Cat is about the only good legal cat system for our cars in CA. That and the RB muffler.
