best sounding exhaust?
 

im looking to get a new carb set up, so might as well do the exhaust. I dont want anything loud, I put a straight pipe on my car once and it was awful. I like the way it sounds now but if i put on the carb it will not reach full potential. I hear the full set up from RB (header, presilencer, muffler) sounds good, but I also herd someone say they liked the sound of the straight pipe to so... anyway what do you all think?

well ideally you want a turbo sounds ;) but the dual outleat header setup from racing beat sounds really good when you have a big carb. nice a deep and it sounds great when you open it all the way up. its deep and mellow but not raspy and loud like some straight pipes ive heard

I have stock exhaust with gutted cats to an Apexi n1, sounds great :) Tomorrow I should have a mp3 up in my thread so you can hear how the muffler sounds.

the sound from a car is discribed differently by everyone. The point is, if its sounds good to you, it may sound good or bad to someone else. I personally would rather have a bad sounding exhuast: meaning high pitched and loud then have a "Fart" type muffler found on many a Ricer car. However, I did like a mild-midrange note from my exhuast. I Don't think the deepest note is the best sound. I like to be unqiue which is easy to do with a bridgeport.<grin> :) Anyway, when you rev a engine high, they tend to have a higher pitch. I don't like the look of a Apex'i N1 system personally. I like the dual outlet of the stock muffler, but with greater flow potential comes with a larger diameter pipe usually. 2.5 inch diameter is as big as you should go with a single pipe system.

I'll second that, albeit that I have the short primary header into single presilencer into duel connecting pipe into streetport muffler. I've heard all the systems in person however.

In my opinion, RB is absolutely the way to go.

I have road race headers and and streetport center section with a Bomz muffler(N1 copy).

I like it, my friends say it sounds like a racecar and they like it.

i have the byplane hum. 12 a streetport racing beat header and straight pipes.

RB streetport system (actually all of their street systems sound nice!) and they're not LOUD! I recommend this.

I also ran this system on my last Rx-7 and I used to get compliments from guys on street all the time.

it's not as mellow as the RB systems, but it's quiet until the secondaries open - then it's significantly louder than RB ...

man, I cant believe how many of you guys have port work done to you car, did you do it localy, or send it away because everywhere I check the cost was somewhere in between $3-3.5k- also (back to the exhaust) how much more flow does the custom pipe provide over the stocker?

Why does everyone seem to go for that deep or deep and mellow sound? Why not the high pitched whine sort of like a Ferrari v12 engine. People around here that have put on these mufflers or tips that change the sound down to deep/throaty/mellow whatever you want to call it seems to make their car sound like it has a hole in the muffler or something is wrong with it. Once in a blue moon I hear that higher tone and just have to look around for it because that seems more the sound of tuned power, not someone trying to sound like they have a v-8 boinger engine when they only have a 4-banger.

Well, I've got racing beat headers back to the stock muffler, damn, it's SOOO farking horrible. :) As soon as I've got the funds I'm gonna throw the propper muffler on it again.

I have almost the same thing. Racing Beat header, Racing Beat Pre-Silencer, stock connecting pipe, stock muffler, and its pretty bad. I cant decind if Im gonna go MagnaFlow, DynoMax, or Racing Beat on the muffler though...

I have to agree with alien rx7.
I have the RB long primary, 2 presilencer, RB muffler deally, and I really like it. But I also have that electric dump on the muffler end (the exhaust is still going through the presilencers).
When I open that up, it is LOUD! But there's NOTHING on the road that sounds like it.
I get all kinds of crap from family and friends about how it sounds like a chainsaw or weed whacker, but I don't care.

I think it sounds like just what it is...The closest thing I'll ever get (so far) to a super-bike on four wheels! (The light flywheel helps;) )

I don't mind the presilencers, I guess, but they're so damn heavy!

i know you asked silverrocket, but if you don't mind my 2 cents, then ...

without the presilencers, it will be loud. how loud is going to depend on what muffler you run at the rear ... as always, i believe the RB main muffler is the quietest and "should" keep you out of trouble at 35 MPH. however, even with an RB muffler, it might not stop some nosy-ASS, no-life-having cop (and upstate is full of 'em) from trying to give you a hard time!

Mine being a custom job, I fabricated a long primary header from RB and Mazdatrix parts. The muffler I bought is from Spintech.com, the RV size. Then I may use a Monza as a secondary. I'm going to play around with the setup to see what kinds of sound I get. I got the cable actuated exhaust cut out Y-pipe from Jegs, so lets see how much fun that turns out to be. Random tech cat to cut down on the smell.

My old setup (a couple guys might of heard it.. rx7passion :)) was streetport 12a with the RB headers connecting at the axle into a 3" pipe into an N1. Loud. Too fucking loud. Like, 120+ dB's loud. I loved it. But I had a big borla muffler welded into the middle and now it's livable. I liked the old sound better, but it's nice to be able to hear my stereo.

does any body have a picture of the RB muffler? im curious as to wat it looks like. ive got sum cheap rice-boy muffler welded on, im wanting to redo from pre-silencer back. anybody know of a direct bolt on from the presilencer to the muffler?

in person it's all black with two chrome tips (about 2 inches each) and the have red paint in the outer edges of the resonators. it's about 18 inches long (i think) and maybe 6 inches tall ...

Can you please posts pics of this complete system? The installed switch, the cutouts, etc everything.

I asked a while ago on the board, but nobody every posted. I would love to have a similar setup in my Turbo application.

It is a completely custom job, though. Even the dump itself- It the center part of an aluminum Dodge Shadow throttle body.
There's no welding. It's operated by a first gen blower (heater) damper motor and an old throttle cable.
