best product to attach side molding with?

My molding is starting to come off, what is the most durable product to use to re-attach?

HAHAH, I'm with TJ..
I used 3M brand double sided tape.
A contact cement is probably more durable.

This is the best...

But you gotta do it right. Remove the trim, clean all the old tape off, clean the contact area on the car, apply the tape to the trim, stick the trim to the car.

Otherwise, just use contact cement.;)

Oh yeah, and to make that trim look new again - use black shoe polish. The wax kind, not the liquid.

I just bought some of the 3M outdoor tape..argh..I think it was called, Exterior Mounting Tape.

Was easy to work with and holds pretty well so far. I guess we'll find out when it rains or snows.

tubbymother 11-22-02 11:53 PM

Anyboby try the black shoe polish? How long does it last-through rain and snow? How many times per year do you need to re-apply?

I just bought a gsl-se that some dumb ass pop-riveted a couple of pieces of the trim back on.

I use it, 'course I suggested it. I only need to put in on every few months. Haven't really paid much attention to how long it lasts. It's just as easy as putting on armor-all.

Best stuff is 3M brand.

I used it to reattach all my trim after I had it repainted. Here's what you do.

Scrap off all the old crap on the molding and then take a wire pad and some Ivory and scrub the backside so it's clean. Then rinse it and dry it. Then take and clean it with alcohol. Once dry carefully apply the 3m tape on the back side of each piece. Leave the adhesive covering on the opposite side until ready to apply.

Wash the car and dry it by towel in the areas where the trim goes. Then clean the area with alcohol.

Do some trial fits before you remove the adhesive covering.

I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH, don't let the 3m sticky side touch the surface at all until in position. You can't imagine how good that stuff sticks.
