Best Mods For The $$$
What are the best mods you can do to an FB for the price?
what year and model you got?
Exhaust is a good start. |
1981 cheapo model
Exhaust and intake are quite important. The rotary is like a big air pump, free up both ends and it'll move alot through it. :)
well on all 7's when you free up the exh. its a great +, then slap on a intake and your at the limit almost. next up a ported motor
Specifcally, what kind of intake are ya talkin?
remove the engine and bridgeport it and add intake and headers. OR put in a TII engine, then you'll be happier
Step 1 - RB header. Not Pacesetter, not Monza, RACING BEAT. Trust me! I can't think of anybody who bought the cheapo header who said "Man, I'm glad i saved $60 by buying a piece of junk that actually loses power compared to stock!"
Step 2 - Holley 7# fuel pump. Should come with a 1-4psi regulator, but if it doesn't, get one of those too. Also a good fuel presure gauge. Adjust to about 3.5psi to start, and go from there. After you uncork the exhaust, you'll find that the stock fuel pump is insufficient. Step 3 - MSD/Direct Fire. (MSD on leading ignition, driving two coils that go directly to each leading plug, bypassing the distributor) Especially if you live in the colder parts of Ohio. There you go, the three basic mods that every RX-7 should have :) |
mmmm. bridgeport..
i wish i had the money to tear my engine down and bridge port it.. oh well, guess i will have to stick with my mild street port for now. that is fine, car is still in the mid 14seconds in the quarter mile.. and i am even runing on a stock intake. but definatly go with exhaust. that is probably the best bang for your buck in these cars... another option with be a direct fire system. you will see a little increase in power, but also an increase in gas milage. |
Poor Jeff20b...if we're talking bang for the least $$$ then you simply must mention DFIDLIS....and the budget Carter fuel pump seems to have a bunch of fans in this Forum...:p:
well the fuel pump alone is not really necessary. it can support enough volum for a stock seven. but once you start doing mods to it, then that will eventually need to be replaced with something else (especially if you port your engine)
