battery hold down!
 

anybody know where to buy a battery hold down? besides the junk yard and mazdatrix? any "aftermarket" battery hold downs? as of now i have a bungee cord and its really freaking me outQ!

be happy you got something I "used" to have zip ties. Ok people don't ask.

They sell universal ones at the parts stores.

The universal ones with the two j-hooks and a rubber strap works great on our battery boxes. Less than 10 bucks at Advance..

Am glad you asked that question, i was also wondering how to get one.

ya.....ur definitly gunna want to get a REAL one quick.......i tried to jimmy one. Got into a little fender bender while i was racing and knocked the battery. So im racing and i smell smoke. SHIT my wires are burning up. so i drive over to the side of the track and theres fire under my hood. NOBODY is coming. THe fire is litterally ENGULFING my fuel lines and i am freaking out. THeres just this one guy standing by where i was and he saw the trouble i was in. So he throws a bottle of root beer over the fence and im trying to put out the fire with this guys root beer finally like 3 minutes later some guys come and help me out. LAME. Moral of the story. Make sure ur battery is sequre.

Yup I agree with Nut Job. Number one fire on this cars is due to battery jumping around. Make sure your battery is secure so you can save your self the trouble that Nut Job when into. Some of you might not be as lucky as him and lost your entire car.

yep on my 83 gsl the battery slid back into the ac compressor which chewed a hole in the side of the batt. slinging acid all over the place. it started causing a hard start problem so checked the battery and found the hole,replaced it tried to clean the engine bay the best i could, 2months later it finally ate up my ac line.

I recommend that anybody should also get a plastic tray, the battery mat that it sits on lining the tray, and the green and red rings around the posts. You'll never ever have any acid on or around the battery. Your clamps and nuts/bolts will not corrode, either.

Well,

You see, any aftermarket batteries are automatically TOO SMALL in height from my experience.

I cut out a piece of wood in the shape of the tray to raise it up and it fitted perfectly.

There's anti-corrosion gel that you can get (my dad gets for free from his work, Lucent Tech) and it stops any corrosion what so ever, all that crap is nothing but a rip off.

Yeah, I jimmied mine up until I saw the AC Condenser chewing up the side of the battery so I quickly fixed that.

1) Measure your battery for height and get the right one. I assure you they have them.
2) What kind of wood ? Balsa weighs less than pine. Pine weighs less than oak, etc. Did you cut it with a chainsaw ? lol j/k
3) The pad and felt rings I have used for years and years absolutely prevent any corrosion or acid crystal formation. Not a rip off.

1) It's been a while and I needed the battery so I just grabbed the first one for my type of car.

2) Regular wood, I've got wood working tools at my house and my dad used to build furniture for a living.

3) Well, we have cars come into our shop down in Baton Rouge all the time and I've yet to see any work.

British Victoria sells them, but they are about $30 or so.

ok I went to Wal-mart here and they didnt have one (im in Canada) so I went over to Canadian tire and got one... Wish i would have done this way sooner... Now my battery sits very tightly, I was able to clamp in on very well and it took about 5 minutes to do as well... Way better then a stretch tie holding it down!
