My FB finally arrived yesterday, and needs a new battery.

What is the recommended Ampage?

Buy a red or yellow top Optima. You won't be disappointed.

The system will only pull as much current as it needs. More is always going to be better.

optimas simply aren't worth the money imo. you can get a sealed deep cycle that will last longer for less.
Definetly get the strongest group 24 (or is it 24R?) that will fit since you live up north.
Also get the battery with the best warranty, For some reason my batteries always go "bad" with one month left in the 3 year free replacement.

Just checked, and ya optimas are damn expensive, almost 3x more.

but they have 10year warranty

The second part of this statement explains why they are worth the money. I had one in a stored car for ten years. It was run dead and recharged countless times during the ten years and still works. There are no other batteries I've had experience with that will live through that. You get what you pay for and it sucks to have a dead battery.
