Ive had my 7 for about 2 years now. I got it registered as a classic so I got no emmissions problems.

When I first got it did all the tune up stuff and it ran better.

Removed the cat and then it would make a "dun dun dun dun" sound when I downshifted kinda cool. Also on occassion it would let out and incredible backfire at high r.p.m. that will light up the night sky. During the day its a nice fluffy cloud of white smoke. Either way this backfire does not sound like a gunshot it sounds like someone is setting a firecracker off in your ear. And it happens when I go to shift up in gear while accelerating.

Its all cool I mean hey its a "look at me" type of thing, and I know its just exess fuel vapors catching on fire and no real damage is being done.

So then I removed the belt to the air pump and replaced it with one that was recomended here.

No problems after this, drove it for weeks still it let its presesnse known with the backfires and the "dun dun dun dun dun" stuff.

Now all the sudden every time it does the Hi rev backfire fart the engine just dies. Now all I have to do to get it going agian is just let off the clutch like a push start and shazam it starts right back up.

This really isnt a big pain, but somehow the engine has changed and the time frame that were talking about I know it has something that I have done with the exaust system that ruined something else. I just quit the hi rev when going on the highway and poof problem gone.

And yea I know where the search button is. No luck.:scratch:

Check your timing, and check for exhaust leaks. If the blast is coming out of the tailpipe, as opposed to shooting back through the carb, then I have no idea why your car would be shutting off. Weird...

Plugs,wire,cap and rotor. When was the last time all these items where changed. Check your coil's for cracks and oil leakage. Check under hood at night with car idling for a light show threw the plug wires themselves. Ignition components on these cars are very crucial and sensitive to issues!

How does the engine idle?

I presume when you state that the high rev. You are stating that when you put the gas pedal to the floor it backfires, then the engine dies?

When the car is just sitting, if you rev it up quickly does it do the same thing or is there a loss of power or stumbling?

It idles just fine. It is a tad rough while it is heating up. But once that temp neddle hits the right spot and the choke knob snaps back in it idles at around 600-800.

I looked for evidence of any type of carb backfire I dont see any in there.

Its a bit late to be starting it up as it is in the back yard and we are in the center of the block. But I will check to see if I have any arcing shorts in the ingnition stuff as suggested.

I cant get it to do the big supermassive backfire at idle. It only happens when I am really trying to make an ass out of myself and blow everyone else away with a fast start.:scratch:

Hmm, sounds like muffler bearings are worned out if you ask me... replace and see if that handles it.
