Bagging a gen 1
has anybody, ever herd about putting air bag sups. on a gen1, i have the factory coils on mine now, with almost 150k, and i notic that i drag, on some things, and i know if i use lowerd springs, i still be high than no, cause te factory ones are shot.
i though i could use bags, on it all around, i could slam it for handling or i could lift it up to go over speedbumbs, rail road tracks, or maybee even going up a dirt road. if any body has done this or seen this please help, Robert |
i dont know too much about how good those setups work, but i hope you have some money.

I'd like to see the results but I've never seen one with the airbag setup before.

check out the s-10 forums .com page...theres so much..and iv read a lot fo stuff there and i think that is a verry good idea..and it would be pretty cheap cuz u dont need fast bags (ur not gona be hopin) and a small compresser and what not. and only use 1/4 tubing(1/2 is so much more) your prolly gona have to custom make some brackets and ur hatch area is gona be full of tanks and shit but it would be very very nice smooth ride and work pretty good..lata

Wouldnt all the stuff needed add a lot of weight?
|
well yea but the bags are lighter then springs...and u would only need a very small tank and the compresser is about the same as a a/c pump. so not that bad just a lot of custom parts are needed

The other item not mentioned here is the change in suspension geometry as the car is lowered or raised. The front alignment gets all out of whack when lowered, not to mention the ackerman. The stock rear suspension would also bind up.
I would think think the car would be a handful to drive and handling would actually be worse if lowered much more than 1 - 2 inches with no other changes. |
id have to agree with u there...i was just sayin its possible to bag it
|
well i know with other cars, or trucks that are bagged they handle reall well.
i am just trying to figure out the best way to have a low rx7 but still be able to drive parking lots, robert |
Theres alot of airbagged trucks running around with alot of power. I have a mazda truck thats airbagged and lays frame. Havnt got the shocks on yet... it bounces around pretty good :) Ide think if you re-do the rear suspention (4-link, or ladder bar, etc..) and bagged it you would be ok. The front your gonna have camber issues. Ide love to see someone bag a 1st gen. It doesnt cost much if you do the work your self. The parts arent much anymore, and even fast bags are cheap.
Tank, valves, couple switches to control the valves, compressor, air lines.. its really not that bad. Make sure your camber is right in the front when your aired up to driving height. When ya drive low be ready to replace tires :) |
