Bad News
 

Ive been keeping my car at a shop of a friend of mines and pulling it in and out of the garage when we want to work on it.

Last week when we were done working on it we moved it outside. The next day it started raining so we went down there to put the sunroof on(we left it on cause it hasnt rained for ahwile) And now today I come back and the whole starter thing like from the key hole to the steering colum *everything* is busted and on the ground beside it. Suposedly a mechanic moved it into the garage mistaking it for another car that they had to do work on and realised there was no key so he just butchered it.

What should I do short of kicking his ass and making him fix it?:(

Make him fix it first. And if that doesn't work, take pictures of everything, and get a court date.

Ya but how much would it cost to take him to court?

Plus lets make it even better, Another mechanic and me just finished intalling a brand new transmission driveshaft and flywheel which costed well over $1000 and the mechanic that FUCKED IT UP is offering me 500 dollars to forget about it. And now since he pushed it into his spot he wants me to pay him for the hours that it took him to rip apart the car, Dumbass.:(

I just talked to my uncle and he said he could install a new starter but that means id have to tow it all the way to kamloops which is like an hour and a half drive from where I live. Not cool

what the hell kind of shop works on cars be breaking shit to get it into the shop , kind reverse of whats supposed to happen isnt it?

Small claims court will eat him alive. It costs you about $50 to file a claim for up to $5,000.

@ least in Saskatchewan, but I don't expect BC would be appreciably more expensive for small claims, especially in Vernon (as opposed to the Lower Mainland)

also the owner before I bought the car gave the guy some furiture and some money to put the new transmission in and he still hasnt done that so do you think they could make him do that too?

not likely. His agreement was with the previous owner, not you... that said, if you have it documented that he was to do things to the car and didn't, bring it along. BC judges tend to look at the whole shebang in evidence, not just Judge Judy the case. Just don't include the extra stuff in the main body of your claim.

I'm not so sure about Canada, but here in the US if the court finds against him, he may be liable for YOUR court costs too. ;)

Don't take this personally, but what the hell kind of mechanics do you Candians have up there? AND if he "the Mechanic" adimitted that another mechanic at that horror shop mistaken it for another car to be worked on, why did he bother if there was no key? I mean, don't they have lines of comunications there or work orders on paper to show what needs repair?

The first rule of repair work done by a "ethical" mechanic person is you don't make more repairs nessessary that he knows the owner will obviously see as incompetence. :confused: He should say hes sorry and offer the replacement parts and labor or be liable for the repairs at another repair shop for whatever else he "hacked" in the car.

I'm still confused by the thread, is this guy a close family friend or something? Just go to court like everyone is saying I guess?:(

Whoa! The specifics of Canuck Law are beyond me. Any other hosers want to field that one? :D
