bad ignitor? blown rear rotor?
 

ok i think i have one of those. first off let me tell you the symptoms. i was cruising down the freeway doin about 75mph and all of a sudden i got a major loss of power so i had to shoot down to the slow lane and when i got off it was idling like crap, i pulled over and it idling like hell when i had it in park (yes its an Auto) i couldnt see anything becouse it was about 11 at night so i drove home. on the way home though it was really rough and shakin bad. so what are some tests i can perform? or do you jus know what is wrong? good or bad news? well thanks

btw its an 84 gsl automatic

first thing i would do is a compression test.

yeah just do a hearing compression test, pull the spark plug wires from the spark plugs, and remove the front rotor's Trailing plug, crank the car listen for the whooooshing sound, put plug back in a repeat for the rear rotor... Cross your fingers and hope you hear whooshing :)

Switch the ignitors. It'll run like crap of the leading is dead but run OK if the trainiling is bad.

This may sound stupid, but my '85 GSL behaved very simalar to what mine did when the feul filter pluged up. I was on the high way @ 130 km/h (80 mph) and the damn thing started to drop off and run ruff and sputter and carry on. Turned out to be a cloged feul filter a nice $6.00 fix.

Any way I may be way off, but the symptoms sound simalar

yuh i forgot to suggest fuel filter or maybe a clogged needle valve in the carb

3 even sounding "whooshes" on each rotor means your good to go and chances are that you prolly dont have THAT much to worry about.
