Backfire Blues

Help!, I have an RX-7 I am currently selling, and I just finished putting in a new clutch disk, so I took it for a drive. It was running beautifully, and I had a friend with, so I decided to pull a burnout (my car is stock but tires are horrible, so I can burnout). Right after I pulled out of it and let my foot off the gas to shift, there was a 3 massive backfires (not those little ones you get from not having exhaust). Now whenever the tach is falling, or when I engine brake, I get massive backfires, and the car doesn't sound even or healthy when it idles like it used to. I hope this is something I can fix, or the value of this car just dropped by about 1/2. The only time you can tell something is wrong is when it backfires, or when it idles. Otherwise it is fine. BTW, I have NO exhaust, and I did not go over redline on the burnout. Thanks in advance.

I think you're supposed to break in the clutch for about 500mi. before you wail on it.

and man, that must be LOUD with no exhaust. do you wear earplugs?

Ya, I always push in the clutch and let off the gas when I pass a cop or I get pulled over, and I realize it was stupid, but I don't think the backfiring or idle has to do with the clutch.

yea that's normal. that stock catilytic and the air pump shit are anti-backfiring.

I did the same thing with my new 81, and took it for a drive down the street and back since this was the 2nd test drive since I got the car in it's non-running condition. the backfires were heard from a block away and I made a little girl cry ;)

but to answer peoples questions, open downpipe on a rotary is SUPER LOUD. and I drive a honda that is open header right now, definately not as loud as my 12a beast!

i'm working on putting on a new straight through exhaust to stock muffler before I drive it home from the shop >_>
