Back Pressure

Do first gen rx7's need back pressure from the muffler and do they need to have CaD's? Need to find out

Rx7carl 09-13-03 06:25 PM

SE's do need some back pressure for the 6th ports to work. CaD'd? WTF is that?

jason_child 09-13-03 06:28 PM

would my 82 gs need any back pressure or would it be ok to run straight pipes for my manafold or header to the back with no anything

Rx7carl 09-13-03 08:47 PM

It would be fine. But youll lose a little low end, along with your hearing. ;) Oh and along with your neighbors, and the cops, and.............................................

err right well I find that its not that loud with no muffler but i have got it up to high spped being as it doesnt get insured to next month. Even so im planning to run a 3.5 inch pipe from the manifold straight to a dual exhaust tip at the back.

Good luck with that. I'm not sure about off the manifold, but straight pipe after header is intense. It becomes impossible to do anything without attracting attention. The kind of attention that sports blue and red lights.

Don't have a turbo? Think about using 2.5 " as the largest pipe size. Three and a half is just ridiculous. I'm also not just spewing back info, I've tried it and got busted failry quick. I still unbolt my exhaust after the long primary header a few times a year just to get my loudness fix. But daily driving like that just gets annoying, it wouldn't be bad if you could flog it all the time. Sadly, that's not really possible.

I drive my car with just a stock manifold for an exhaust, ever since this happened at 90mph:

No cops yet......but I'm sure my time will come soon.

You should not use pipe that big. The exhaust velocity will drop too much and cause backpressure and lower performance.

Whoops, it looks like I implied that I've tried 3.5". I meant running straight pipes, the noise is hard to explain. Chainsaw on crack coccaine and speed....wind it to 7 and feel your ears bleed. We went out and did runs through tunnels. Man what a headache after that. :)

I do notice a difference between open headers and full exhaust. Open has a slightly higher top end feel to it but the bottom end sucks compared to hooked up.
