axle and brake questions

Ok, I've read thread after thread and looked at specs etc, sometimes that makes your mind even more jumbled. LOL

Here's what I have:

84 GSL rear end

Here's what I want:

5 lug bolt pattern for more wheel options

A couple questions:

Are the 84 GSL and 85 GSL SE axles the same length?
(because I am going to need the GSL SE as the have the larger diameter and I can have them drilled or just order from moser)

I am assuming I will need 85 GSL SE rotors which would have the proper diameter for the axle fit. right?

Now the brakes. The 85 GSL SE rotors are vented, but are the 84 GSL and the 84-85 GSL SE calipers interchangeable?

Right now I am think I need 85 GSL SE axles, rotors and calipers and just drill the rotors and axles for 5 lug.....just not sure the axle lengths on the 84 GSL and 84-85 GSL SE are the same.

Any help is appreciated.

The GSL and GSL-SE have the same rear axle housing. The GSL-SE axles are a bit longer but no problem. I'm doing the same conversion. Here is you need:

1. GSL-SE rear axles can be re-drilled OR Moser 5 lug axles.
2. The GSL and GSL-SE calipers are not interchangeable.
3. You can convert to a Big Brake Kit (BBK). I purchased mine from RESpeed before the company was sold (read up on RESpeed on here before purchasing anything). This will allow me to use RX-7 TII calipers and rotors. You can also contact KCRaceware KC Raceware about getting bigger brakes.
4. For the front, all you need is the GSL-SE brakes (calipers, rotors, brackets , etc) or go with a BBK for the front and use TII rotors/calipers or something from KCRaceware. The strut tubes/spindles are the same on the GSL and GSL-SE by the way.

Hope this all make since. I'm sure someone else can give there experience. Many people are going coil overs when upgrading the brakes this much.

it looks like the GSLE axles would be longer to compensate for the vented brakes right?....they go deeper into the rotor.

I.e. the dimensions overall would be the same with the 84-85 GSL and GSL-SE when the rotors are on?

yeah, I wish Re-speed was reputable, they would be getting a LOT of dollars from me if they were :-( I am very envious of those kits!

what I am trying to accomplish is having the rear end fairly narrow so I can have a deeper offset on the wheels and still get them under the fenders.

I have the TII front brakes calipers and hubs and 84-85 hubs/spindles. now I need the bearing sleeves and brake mounting plates. I've seen enough to have them fabricated, but damn I wish I could just buy this stuff somewhere in a kit!!
