Autozone weatherstripping for teh win!

My beautiful wonderful keep-you-mitts-off-she's mine wife got me some weatherstripping for the 7 from autozone. I just put on one side and I must say that i'm quite impressed! I didn't think they would be right or fit correctly but they did... perfectly I might add. Not a bad find at all. So for those looking for new strip go to autozone. You'll have to order it and it will take a day or two but its worth it.

hmm. one less thing to worry about finding replacements for!

louisville eh? ever been to that baxter station restaurant?

Are these the ones on the autzone site (see link below)? I noticed the part number is LM 107. The parent company of BD and VB is called Long Motors. Hmmm, maybe autozone gets them from there. The price at autozone is $8 cheaper, go figure. Maybe they get a big discount for handling the order for LM.

Pictures of the packaging and the install would be cool. Sounds like a good alternative.

dbragg 12-27-06 09:43 AM

is that price per door or per car?

t_g_farrell 12-27-06 09:53 AM

The BD prices are $39.95 per side. I'm assuming the Autozone price of $73.99 is for a pair or per car. Good question. We need to know for sure.

j9fd3s 12-27-06 10:03 AM

mazda list is 70.80 each side.... its prolly where autozone is getting em

Tsi_Xtreme 12-27-06 10:10 AM

thats the pair price. The box says "Metro Supersoft Sponge Weatherstrip"

bliffle 12-27-06 10:40 AM

I got a complete set of door seals and window seals from both BD and mazdatrix (OEM), and the OEMs , though more expensive, are clearly better. The BDs are too hard and inhibit door closing and electric window operation. In fact, I'll have to replace the BD window seals because I can't depend on the windows going up and down. Maybe the BD door seals will wear in, but in the meantime I have to really slam the doors.

TSI you are the man. I wanna see how they look.

Tsi_Xtreme 12-27-06 11:25 AM

You have to close the door alittle harder than normal but the instructions said that by the next the day the will conform and be like normal. I'll let you know tomorrow. I'll also try to get some pictures as well.

Looks like you can still get them a bit more cheaply on ebay, I recall a post where a bunch of people said they had good luck with these:

AM auto
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/78-79...spagenameZWDVW

A1 autoparts
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/79-85...spagenameZWDVW

I purchased a pair from A1 Auto three or four years ago and they fit great and seem to be wearing very well, still has that new door fit. And that's after transferring them to three different GSLs (hint, don't use rubber glue to glue them down like the instructions say, they stay put fine without it and it makes taking them off and reinstalling easier).

I just installed the A1 weatherstripping. Went on SUPER easy and I love it.

Its says in the auction these are made by METRO, so they are the same as the autozone brand being sold and they are only $69.90 with shipping, so its like $4 cheaper than the zone. Sounds like METRO seals work no matter were we get em.

I'd rather pay $4 dollars than have to deal with ebay and paypal and all that. But thats a cool little fact. My friend has BD's and he says that the ones on mine are much better.

Damn can you move that damn shirt?

t_g_farrell 12-28-06 07:55 AM

Hmmm, so the autozones are better than BD. Thats good to know. Pics of yours, the BD, and the A1 weather stripping would really be useful. Then we can see what the difference is.

Nice pic.

Another problem I've had with BD is the window channel: They seem to be too deep. The window cocks when winding down and binds winding up. And that's on windows that were working perfectly before. I had to oval the adjustment screwhole to take up the slack, but that's bad because now the steel channel isn't uniform along its length so it'll bind again.

bringin another thread back from the dead :icon_tup:

i just bought some oem weatherstrips that came in a kit which included 4 rubbers per door (door weatherstrips, inner channel, outer channel, and window channel), rear hatch weatherstrip, series 3 brake and clutch rubber pedals which dont fit on my s2 because they are too small and 2 little rubber nubs for the gas tank lid.

so far i installed the door weatherstrip and outer strip because my old ones were cracked and when it rained or i gave it a wash water would leak in. now it doesnt anymore and also the wind sound when driving has gone down mucho!! also i installed the rear hatch seal to replace the old one and thought it would help gas fumes but i dont think that my old one was bad anyways but oh well. OEM FTW!!! i gotta install the other strips when im not too lazy

two79rx7's 09-24-07 01:28 AM

how much for this kit, boyee
