AutoPower bolt in cage

Anyone install the U-Weld kit? How hard was it?

I have the AutoPower roll bar. I need to put the rest of the cage in for a legal Spec-7

How much should I expect to pay to have it installed by professionals seeing as how I don't own a welder. Or maybe it's worth it to buy a MIG welder.

Pele, check the rules for Spec-7 if I remember correctly Spec -7 is BOLT IN ONLY. If your talking IT7/ITA they can be bolt or weld.

No... I think people are misunderstanding me... I'm not welding it to the car itself...

It's the lower one here.

I have the roll bar already. I need to add the other bars to make it a full cage, but the plates still bolt into the chassis.

I bought the Competition Engineering roll bar, welded it in. It was a cut to fit kit and I hadn't welded in 25+ years, man was I out of practice. Bought a new wire feed to do it too.

I don't know if I would do it again, at least not until my welding skills improve to where they used to be. The weld quality will be subject to tech inspection, if you weld like I do, have it installed professionally.

Damnit, it appears the bolt in cage has sleeves attached to the roll bar to make it a attach to the front hoop... It appears my bar is useless in Spec-7.

Can anyone confirm with pics of their cage and bar installs? (Autopower ONLY).

As I understand it, there's only one part number for the cage allowed in spec 7, you can't piece it together yourself.

I found out what the deal is...

Autopower makes the bolt together cage. Part of the cage is identical to their roll bar, but it has parts welded to it that allow you to attach the front hoop...

There are weld marks on mine where those little parts have been removed, effectively making this a roll bar.

The rest of teh cage was destroyed in a wreck. The roll bar is the only part that is useable.

destroyed, eh? did you check the remainder for stress fractures, joint integrity, etc?

Personally I'd rather not run a cage that has been wrecked, but you need to at least check it out if you're going to trust it to perform a function.

Only the front hoop was damaged and therefore discarded. The roll bar, which is all I have, doesn't appear to be bent or anything. So far as I can tell the welds are all intact. No visible hairline fractures...

Should I have the bar x-rayed?

The front hoop and door bars will be new.
