auto trans questions

The problem is that the gasket on my auto transmission pan is leaking, I've bought a new one but I can't for the life of me find a plug to drain the transmission fluid, does anyone know where it's located, I've searched everywhere but the only pictures I found didn't look anything like mine? Secondly when I do replace the gasket should I use any gasket sealant and if so should I use the non-hardening or the silicon based stuff? Thirdly what I did find had a lot of stuff about refilling the trans under the car but my car has a dip stick, this tube is cool to use for refilling right?

BTW the car is a 1981, series 2, 3 speed auto, 12A, carb, NA, Australian delivered

1. Most auto trannies don't have drain plugs. Loosen all of the bolts on the cover, then tip down one corner to start draining.

2. Don't know.

3. I believe that the dipstick tube should be fine, it's what I've used on all auto vehicles I've owned.

Do not use any type of sealant on the gasket at all.
And yes the dipstick is where you refill the trans from.
I don't know if a trans fluid additive made by lube guard is available in Austraila or not. But if it is buy a bottle of it and use it, it is an excellent protectant and is one of the few products on the market that is approved by the manufacturers.

SEE I'm not the only one with an Auto!!!

everything stated so far is correct. I would also consider putting in a new tranny filter at this time. They are only 16 bucks and your already there.

I'm getting my auto transmission looked at, but i just want to know if the car over-revs when you start it, is there a problem?

It also clicks out of gear and free revs when you pull up at lights.

I wont know anything until it gets checked, any ideas?

Low on fluid, possible need of band adjustments.
