ATF treatment
 

I've seen numerous post and am wondering proper way to do this. 80 RX-7 has been sitting for 6 yrs. Put atf in spark plug holes and crank eng by hand and add more?
wait 24hrs then crank it?? how much atf and which plug holes?

if you put in 2 qts like this dumbass, make sure to pull the plugs and drain lol.

yah, i would say that it a bit excessive..
just check out that site..the process is actualyl different, and a lot easier, on carbed engines.

it is kinda hard not to.. think abou it. that is almost have the amount of oil that your engine holds

What woudl 2 quarts do? I mean, I dont see the difference bettween 2oz, than 2 quarts, just more ATF is all. Some please explain. :) LATERZ

you just flood your engine with the shit.. i donot know if it would do any harm, i doubt that it would.

there should be something in the archive on the 1st gen atf treatment trick.
it worked great for me on two diferent engines.

everyone said blah blah hydrolock blah blah but all i did was pull the plugs and slosh any excess out by turning the motor. to me it would seem more effective with the more you can put in because you'll cover more area. you are truly "soaking" the rotors. i had no problem. engine turned over fine. just drain the excess before trying to start.

I revived a froze engine from a junkyard that had some water sitting in it. It took a long breaker bar and a day of autotranny fluid in it to get it to budge. Then installed it, it would crank but had very little compression. NExt we tried the funny techinque, put more tranny fluid in and pull it along the road then it finally started to get some combustion going and ran extremely rough. I kept pouring tranny fluid in through the throttle bores and rev'd it up and down a bunch of times and before long it was running smooth as could be. Then I took it out on the road and it made full power and ran good.

2 weeks later the engine failed due to a apex seal cracking and wedging in one of the rotor housings. Luckily it happened right in my driveway:)

Oh well it was a $50 engine. LOL

Why not just put it in and let it sit over the weekend. Get some old plugs and fire it up. Can't hurt to put in more I'd think

I should have done this when I bought my '7' that had been sitting for 2 years. It may have prolonged the life...

I am in the process of documenting statistically and in pictures the results of using the ATF procedure. I have tried it before with no success, but the reason for the engine failures were not apex seal related. More like side seals.
Anyway, I have a 85 GSLSE that I purchased for $550.00, because the girl that owned it said the engine was diagnosed with low/no compression. Well, I checked the compression, and actually it is pretty darn good. (so the atf may be no big deal anyway). It was running a low of 7.8kg to a high of 8.2kg on all apex seals. The low limit by Mazda specs is 6kg, so this thing is in pretty good shape. So I thought I would go ahead and ATF it and compare the before and after compression. And, while I am at it, I figured I would shoot some pictures of the smoke screen that the ATF procedure creates. It really is a sight to see!
