apexi n1 mufler on an fb? good idea?
 

has anyone done this? some or the 3rd gen guys say they're good for 15 hp...anyone tried on their fb? and insight?

yeah, its a good idea.. but only if you put a double decker super kung fu shogun attack spoiler on it

I would assume that an Apexi muffler would be hella loud. There's also no way it will add 15hp....

Unless you add an Apexi sticker. Then you're set for at least 20.

I'm using an Apexi N1 "style" muffler. 2.5'' straight through, full stainless. I had the stock manifold and gutted all 3 cats. With the silencer in, it makes it streetable, with it out, it's LOUD. I could easily feel a power increase over stock.

i'm using one on my turbo fb, 3" back from the 2.5" racing beat pre-silencer, 3" thru-muffler, 4" tip.

They sound horrible in my oppinion unless it's on an otherwise stock exhaust, and i felt no gain whatsoever in performance from adding just a muffler. Chose something better, the internals of that muffler won't last but a few weeks. Look into a "turbo" muffler at autozone, they're $30 and resonated inside with some fiberglass matting, even if the internals melt out it will still be much quieter than a straight-thru design.

Edit: If you'd still like a glass-packed muffler, i have a full cat-back with muffler for sale. I want around $100 for it, i have no idea how much shipping would cost.

I agree. I bought one out of desperation, and I would never do it again. Much better to have a quieter exaust all the time. If your like me, you'll back off from having fun with the car most of the time. It's like having an alarm to alert all cops within 5 miles of you to your "activity".

Plus mine was a glasspack. So as of now it's a charcoal pack muffler.

Spend the extra money, get a power pulse muffler or some other high quality one.

True Apexi N1 mufflers are actually very nice. Not sure how much use you'd have for one on a NA car since they have a 3" OD inlet, which is larger than the pipe that you'd want on there.

On my turbo FB, I've got the Borla XR-1 as a presilencer and the N1 as the final muffler. It looks a tad odd on a first gen, but not horrible. It sounds very good. The Borla did next to nothing by itself, but take the tinny stuff out. The N1 gave it a very nice throaty sound, and muffled it quite a bit. Loud but not overbearing.

I had a road race header, streeport center-section collecting after the axle into a n1 muffler.

It was loud as hell but sounded cool and shot flames.

But the shop didnt full weld every seam and the rear section of the exhaust blew apart.

For some reason people keep spreading some rumor about mufflers melting.

I've never seen one melt, and neither have the local exhaust dudes (who have installed rotary exhaust systems before, a few REPU's, an rx-2 and several rx7's, FB's and FC's).

I donno, i've never had one melt.

Okay, mine didn't melt. But it did start getting louder after a few weeks.

Mine is hollow inside, i can hear what sounds like a few pebbles inside when i shake it.

power pulse mufflers suck they're not straight through, and i need flow... but that's my .02
