Anyone using a fuel cell in a street legal FB? Thinking about tank options..
 

Hey guys,
As you should all know by now (I tend to be a post whore, lol), im building a TII powered widebody. As with any project im going to have several dilemas which are going to take some thinking to get around.

One of them happens to be my fuel system. I would like to build my car to be as streetable as possible, and I would like it to function flawlessly. One of my problems is the stock fuel tank is looking pretty rusted and should be replaced.

Since S3 fuel tanks are EXTREMELY rare around here im wondering if anyone has added a fuel cell in there street car? I need to figure something out, it may also be alot easier if I can find some setup with baffles so I don't need to figure out how to mount the surge tank I have... Keeping the system as simple as possibe is deffinately a goal of mine, but without a baffled tank that requires 2 fuel pumps (need one to feed the surge tank).

Since the car is going to be meant for the street it would also be nice to have a large tank in it (this car is REALLY going to burn the gas...).

The cell would likely not be legal depending on how scrutinous your local authorities and smog checkers are.Simplicity and ease of setting up fuel cell mounting,filling and delivery systems, depends on your opinion and abilities.

The FC pump to FB tank is a relatively easy job and exactly duplicates the factory setup on most cars.Its quiet,reliable,compact,easy to upgrade furthur and is protected from the elements.
It can be done to any FB tank using any FC tank for parts and it only requires a few small welds here and there. Any decent radiator or fab shop should be able to handle it,you just have to wash and wash and wash the tanks before grinding/cutting/welding anything to them.It only took a couple days to prep and plan out the swap and then 2 more days to get my tank back from a local radiator shop,costing only 175 bucks.In retrospect,I could have done it myself,had I had a spot or TIG welder.It was worth paying out for,its been utterly reliable for years now and is silent,running a 400HP capable SupraTT MkIV pump.
