Hi....I haven't takin the car yet....but summer has just began....and it's nice and broke in now....

Yes I was told that the engine does run a lot warmer....so they had to put in a flex-lite cooling system....

I think my high performance fuel filter is a holley....but not sure what the flow is....I do know it's pretty noisey....at first I thought something was wrong with the car.....now it's worry if I don't hear it....

So between the noisey fuel pump, the centerforce clutch...and the supercharger that whistles...and the cool sounding exhaust....I guess if you didn't know cars....you would think it to be a peice a junk...

When I first took the car on the road...I was at a stop light...some guy pulled up next to me and yelled..."have problems" starting it....and snickered....

Only if he knew what was under the hood....and the fact that I could have kicked his ass....before he could blink an eye....

Good edea actually if you have a supercharger to install a good high performance battery to start that engine...takes a lot of juice to start that supercharger...if not you will go through a lot of batteries...

thats awsome. i'm having my motor built at atkins. been waqnting a supercharger for awhile. dave is a great guy(owner of atkins) he has impressed me with some of the things he has built. anyways i'm glad to hear some good news about the superchargers. have you got the 7 inch yet? do you think you even need the 7 inch? when i had my first engine built last year(thanks to wal-mart i'm getting it rebuilt now ##$@#$@*&) dave was telling me that you can change the pullys and get a steady 15 psi with the 5 inch. i would love to get one for my 80, but not right now. anyways i hope you have fun and drive safe with that hot rod of yours.

I plan to supercharge my 84 GSL-SE via Atkins blower. I have read so many good vs bad to doing this project. I myself have really been torn in this decision as well.

Turbo's are more complex, and you can reach a much higher HP# with a rotary. However, A good turbo setup is more expensive than the Atkins setup. A turbo setup is much more complex. I do understand how the reving characteristics of a rotary matches a turbo much more then a blower. However I still see myself going the Atkins route because of its simplicity. With a fresh rebuild, street ported, and a 14psi wheel.........she'll be putting down about 330-340hp.

Oh ya and if ya have questions about a blower setup, just email Atkins rotary. I think their getting tired of my questions:)

na i don't think they get tired of questions. i'm lucky, i live close by. dave uses a blower on his car. so does many who work there.(if i could only talk them into a used one CHEAP). i must have asked a thopusand ? 's in the past 16 months. hell dave was telling me about a rotary he built for the coast guards boat(they replaced dual 454's with it) and it broke their drive shaft. Atkins are some very skillful people. hell, anyone who designs a rotary to power an airplane got to be good. they even made a lawnmower engine for a company, the company didn't like it cause it was too reliable. go figure. i tell you what,. i talked to atkins and hayes alot before i went with atkins. i'm picky, i wanted the best for my money. can't wait till next week.

I'm waiting for a system that works with the stock efi for the SE and second gens. That system has been "in devopment" for quite a few years now.

hornbm 07-29-03 02:55 PM

HOLY SHIT! Just checked camdens website, and they have a fuel injected setup now, and they have 9 and 12 inch superchargers!

CODE BLUE 2 07-29-03 08:19 PM

Well....I did a Dyno on my car last Tuesday....was 271HP

You cant fit the 9 or 12 in superchargers in a first gen in a 13B....but you can in a 2nd gen with a 20B "3 rotor"

They are selling the 7in superchargers for 2,300 I think

All's I have to say is....I am extreamly pleased with my supercharger....just a bit spendy on the gas and oil at times....but hey well worth it...

On August 2nd were all having a meet...at Steel Lake park in Federal way... at 11am ....for all that are from Washington State....I'll take ya for a ride if ya show up.....

Once you go for a ride....and feel and hear how the car runs....you will go supercharger...smile

Nice car. I've seen pics of it posted before. Nice power levels. Unfortunately, I don't believe it. And I can almost guarantee that your cars gets slower as the heat builds up from running in boost. I don't think that system has a bypass either to ever run off-boost either.

So, Before you guys go all crazy for a non-intercooled supercharger setup..

For a fraction of the price you can build a non-intercooled turbo system that goes straight from the turbo to the carb of your stock 12A. It won't have the "heat soak" of superchargers, it will have no lag, and won't lower your gas milage if you drive off boost.

I know Robert (680) has bult a few of these, and can probably chime in.

The other nice thing is that you can always intercool it in the future as your needs may grow.

Remember, that's how the original stock 12A Turbo was designed. You can even use a slightly modified stock 12A turbo hat as well, to make it look trick.

LOL...gets slower....your too funny.

I do agree with you on one thing though....superchargers do get hot....thats why you put a good cooling system in your car....but gets slower...I haven't had any problems while cruzing around and then getting on it....

I do not have a 12A in my car....

Anyways...believe what you want to believe as far as my Dyno goes...

Everyone has their preference when it comes to Turbos or Superchargers....I'm not cutting Turbos down. It's just a matter of choice as they both have their downfalls.

It is more ware and tear on your car to have a Turbo in it...and not to mention "Turbo Lag". Yes...Turbos do get better gas mileage. By the time your turbo builds that boost.....I will be gone...POOF

I have nothing against Turbos...at first I was wondering if maybe I should have gone Turbo...but as my car broke in...I was happy with the supercharger..

Please go to Atkins page and it will show you proof about superchargers in a p/o 13B supercharged motor and what it should Dyno at.

I will post my Dyno up on here. Laim excuse but my scanners glass is broke...and I'm not even sure how to post it up on here except through my yahoo...

fatboy7 07-30-03 10:53 AM

How much boost are you running?

With the parisitic losses, non-intercooled I'd expect you'd have to run at least 15 psi and proably closer to 18 to get 271 to the wheels.

I'd believe 271 @ the flywheel - thats around 235 to the wheels. which would probably be possible around 12-13. Thats still a lot, IMO.

I have had a Atkins 5 inch on my 72 RX2 for 4 years and kick myself for not doing it years ago. I have found the every day car that finally has torque(bottom end) I have a stock motor that came alive. There is NO better nag for the buck made anywhere. I know a turbo makes more horsepower but for pure ease of installation(every thing was there) just add a bigger carb, fuel pump, air cleaner and enjoy. I wish I could have bought the 7 inch but they did not make it then for resale. Dave sent me the smaller pulley and I am pulling 9 lbs of pure even torque. Every one has their choice of add ons but we all should remember that we are rotary heads not my way is better so just help each other on the path to better horsepower with our big people toys.:D :D
