Anyone know where to get keys?
Looking for some factory or non factory black head key blanks for a 1979, 1985, and 1983 rx7.
My friend is the local Mazda Parts manager and he can cut them for me buy using the vin, but he can not get blanks without ordering alot of them. Thanks for the help |
Fire,
The black head key I got (doesn't say Mazda, but looks factory), I had made at the Mazda dealership in Jackson Tn. FWIW. jeryj |
What does it cost to have a dealer cut a key like that?

It's been a while, but I'm thinking it was like 5-6 bucks. But I do remember the guy having to look to see if he had one in stock. He did.

Yeah, I only have the silver key for my 85 GSL. It opens everything though luckily. I want a black head Mazda key for it too. Actually, I just want a new full key set for my 83 GSL. The "main" key, the "valet" key, and whatever other keys they came with. I dont know if the 83s had the valet key, but all I have is an aftermarket copy of something, and it opens everything, so I guess its the "main" key. But in my quest for perfection, I want an all new key set :).
~T.J. PS - For those who dont know, I heard a rumor at one time that the Mazdas came from the factory with at least two keys. One black head which opens everything, and the other "valet" key which only turns the ignition? Or it opens everything but the glovebox? Something like that...I dont remeber, anyone know? |
