Anyone know a good match paint for faded brown interior pieces?
I know i have asked this before and i didnt really get much of a reply.
I tried using Krylon Fusion brown and it looks okay, but it is not very close (too light). So, again, does anyone know a good matching paint for the 84-85 brown interior option? This is to be applied to the rear plastic trim found in the hatch are; like the speaker covers and such... Please help, i know someone has had some luck right? Oh and FWIW i do not want to sand down or steel wool down the parts, nor did i have any luck with the heat gun method (heat gun worked, but left everything patchy and non uniform). |
I went to both auto parts store and home depot with a piece that I was trying to match but successfully found paint at home dpot (plasticpaint) for like outdoor furniture that can withstand the suns temp.

Look for vicoona or vaikuna (not sure on the spelling). It's a shade of brown for clothing.

Pick up an SEM color chart. Iirc, there is a brown there that matches.

Also, search the 1st gen section under RX7Doctor. He did a brown/tan color update that looked absolutely awesome.
He could probably tell you how it's been holding up as well. |
SEM 17223 very dark pewter is what I use on my two GSLSE`s.........

Close is no good. You expend the cost of paint and your considerable Effort in prep and painting only to achieve results that will be sub-par.
Take a plastic part to a paint vendor. They can mix an exact match of SEM or equivalent plastic paint and put it a spraycan. Most of the plastic and vinyl paint and dye manufacturers will also match for you the exact color at small cost, if you send a sample part. Do it right. |

I sprayed this color on the inside unfaded portion of a piece. Let it dry.....it might not have been an exact match but I had a very very hard time finding the sprayed portion. But then again I am over 50 years of age and do not have perfect vision. |
I found a black that matched the guage surround and other black plastics and went 2-tone where ever it was fading , IMO it looks much better than the stock I think I have a pick in my garage section
