Anyone else unable to fit in a FB w/ leather seats?

my cloth seat FB i have i can fit in just fine. But my other one with the leather and that extra adjustment, i can fit confortably what so ever. My head is in the ceiling. Im 6' 1" and 195 lbs. Why the hell did mazda have to make the leather seats 2" taller?!?!

they did it to make the ride more comfortable/suitable for women. iirc

glosoli 01-02-07 03:56 PM

I seem to fit fine and Im 6'1'' aswell.

These cars were built for small Japanese people, what do you expect?

Lowimpedance, I feel if your uncomfortable with those leather seats and they happen to be brown and in excellent shape. You should send atleast the driverside to me so I can test it for you and get back to you later.lol

By the way I am over 6' 1'' and I just recline them.

6'0 230 and I fit perfectly. Unless im in a coat then its just b.s.

Whizbang 01-02-07 06:52 PM

maybe i didnt adjust them enough?

Depends on your leg lenght. I have very long legs and even with adjusting them in the recline posistion they are not comfortable. On my recent trip to norcal in my Se I removed the driverside leather seat and put a GSL in for comfort.;)

I found the cloth lower and more comfortable as well. My leather are okay but head clearance is tough with a helmet on at the track though.

This is a great subject. I'm 6'2" and 210 lbs, and the 2-way cloth seats are fine and they are my preference. But the 3-way leather seats and 3-way cloth seats are a little uncomfortable. I have an extra set of leather seats, so I'm looking for an upholsterer to remove the old foam padding and replace with thinner progressive compression foam so as to remove 1-1.5 inches while retaining comfort. I suspect that the hardest part is thinning the seatback padding.

I've tried stretching the "S" springs under the seats with a crowbar without much luck.

since we're on the subject, i like to sit upright in my car, an im not a really tall (last time i checked which was like 3ishyrs ago) and i can just fit my hand between my head and the headliner in my cloth seats and i have a really short haircut i'd say roughly 1in to bout 1 an a half mayb 2inches

Hahaha, the only height you posted was your hairs, LOL

the leather seats just dont feel right after sitting in the cloth 2-way for so long.

84stock 01-02-07 11:35 PM

If my leather seats weren't so perfect I would swap in cloth ones.

jpre 01-03-07 12:41 AM

It's a problem for me. Just a +1 post.

Personally I think the cloth seats are a bit tight and I'm only 5'11".

I have an 85 SE. I sat in an 83 before I got mine and it was practically cavernous. It had no sunroof, but it _had_ to be more than that.

ZeusFace 01-03-07 01:16 AM

So im 6'3 and my friend is also 6'3 and my other friend is 6'4 and we all fit in my 7 with, for the most part comfort.

diabolical1 01-03-07 01:25 AM

yeah, i'm not a huge fan of the leather seats, myself.

wallyrx7 01-03-07 10:04 AM

haha I so glad this post came up! I'm 6'2 and I have to lean my seat back and the worst part is my thighs are basically up against the bottom of the steering wheel!!!!

my leather seats though are also almost perfect so it's hard to justify getting rid of them

anyone want to trade?

dantheman 01-03-07 10:23 AM

I am 6'3" and my wife is 6'1" and we don't have problems with the leather seats. My main concern is getting my legs under the wheel. I have thought multiple times about a smaller one, but stearing is hard enough in a parkinglot without P/S.

Whizbang 01-03-07 10:48 AM

the other reason why my cloth seats are going into the GSLSE, you slide all over in those damn leathers.

BAClanton 01-03-07 10:49 AM

i'm 6'0-6'1" about 190lbs and I have trouble getting out of my car w/ cloth seats (have to get out kinda funky due to knees being tight under the steering wheel)

road_runner 01-03-07 01:34 PM

i fit just fine in my GSL. But i've got the cloth seats.......and i'm only 5'3 140 lbs.

bliffle 01-04-07 12:39 PM

I had a nice pair of 2-way cloth seats a few years ago, but I gave them away before I needed them.

Anyone figure a way to lower the 3-way seats? I believe there is room between the seat and floor. I've tried stretching the S springs with a crowbar, without much luck. I have a pair of leather seats that require mending so I'll have the guy take out some foam at the same time and maybe replace with newer better foam. Has anyone tried that? What's really required is to change the structure since the seat/back pivot point seems to be moved forward and upward from the 2-way location.

clbsinvaders 01-04-07 01:37 PM

Can the cloths be swapped in and the leathers into a GS? I just may do this if I find I don't like the leather in the GSL-SE i am supposed to buy.

kapn krunch 01-04-07 07:12 PM

im 6'3 and fit in mine just fine ive got about 2 inches of head room with the seat all the way back and reclined against the cargo bins and 1'' around the steering wheel

$150FC 01-04-07 07:18 PM

6'3", 220, '85 GS, cloth 2way, I sit more upright than in my FC. More headroom than I could believe. Plus my knee doesn't turn on the windshield wipers. I do think my seats are pretty worn down though.

Has anyone put FC seats into an FB? I have a minty set of TII seats (in gray no less) than I want to transplant.
