Anybody using a FD Racing Beat Muffler on a Turbo FB?

Just want to know if you guys think there will be any fitment issues with an FD racing beat muffler. Anybody with pics would be great. I have an 85GSL-SE with a TII swap and I need this beast quiet or at least a lower tone. As I understand racing beat exhausts are known for being quite and low tone. Thanks for any feedback.

I thought about doing that, but ended up getting a streetport RB 1st gen muffler for my TII swap. Its a tad louder than the regular RB muffler and has a bigger inlet.I cut the stock inlet pipes off and grafted it to my full 3" system.

Id be interested to see how the 3rd gen RB muffler stacks up size, cost and sound wise to the 1st gen SP muffler.....

Very quiet and so far, indestructable. No signs of failure or a tone change in almost 6 years......

a few guys have used a magnaflow bullet stye muffler, or other manufactuers bullet mufflers, and then I believe a dynapack (?) muffler as a resonator up near where the cat. was.....

Thanks for the responses guys. I am interested in the FD muffler because it has a 3in inlet and my exhaust is all 3in madrel bent. Steve that looks pretty good. What turbo are you running and boost levels?

I am running the stock turbo and my exhaust is so free flowing I was getting upto 16lbs of boost. Which resulted in blowing an apex seal because my water/meth injection was not doing its job. So motor is being rebuilt and ported. I am also porting the turbo wastegate to control the boost level and adding a data logger. Going straight meth injection this time as well.

I think I will go with with the FD racing beat muffler and a racing beat 3in universal presilencer. Hope that will keep her quiet. I will post pics and results as soon as Robert at the Shack gets my motor done, hopefully this week.

You may want to try it with just the RB muffler first and see if the sound is where you want it and then add silencers if needed. The RB mufflers are great quality and really bring the noise down and gives a really nice tone.

The RB muffler on mine actually keeps the noise within CA noise standards, which is under 95db,measured at a right angle 12" from the tailpipe, engine running half of its rated RPMs......of course that under no load, and it gets quite a lot louder under boost. But its not a blaring sound, just that loud, flat whoosh you usually get from turbo engines.

My exhaust system is all 3" mandrel bent stainless, beginning with a RB stainless downpipe,3" Bonez cat, piping, and the RB muffler. The RB tips were chopped off and replaced with a pair of 2.5" raw stainless pipes....I dont like chrome.

Nice thing about running a turbo, the exhaust fins quiet quite the note down nearly as much as a pre-silencer will. You might look into using a Borla XR-1 for a presilencer and a Magnaflow for the muffler. The XR-1 works great as a pre-silencer. Highly recommended by some of the 2nd and 3rd gens guys. That combo will yield a decently quiet note, for much less moola.

Turbo and manifold selection also have a big impact on the exhaust noise.
The difference in sound and rasp was very noticable between the S4 and the S5 turbos/mani's.
While both are similar turbos, the S4 manifold blends the front and rear ports immediately as they enter. The S5 manifold keeps the pluses seperate all the way into the turbo, until they actually contact the turbine.
It basically the same as comparing the sound of a stock N/A exhaust manifold to a header......One is muted and smooth, the other is loud and raspy.

I've actually contemplated doing the exact same setup on my FB using the 3" RB presilencer and the RB 3rd gen muffler. It should work great. I see no issues with it. I know the muffler will fit as I've had a stock 3rd gen muffler on my car before. I say go for it.
