Anybody ever replace the tie rod dust boots?
 

My car has sat in the barn for well over 10 years and almost ready to get it back on the road. I'm in the process of redoing my entire braking system and noticed that all the steering dust boots are cracked. I priced out getting new tie rod ends, idler arm, pit-man arm - anything with a dust boot. The price is a couple hundred dollars.

I ran across some Energy Suspension dust boots and wondered if anyone has replaced just the boots?

The part number for 1979-1985 Tie Rod and Ball Joint Energy Suspension boots is 9.13105G (for black) 9.13105R (for red)

I did some more checking and found that the Ball Joint End Boots and the Ball Joint End Boots come in the Package Kit - Mazda RX7 79-85 from Energy Suspension Parts Dealer, Specializing in Energy Suspension Bushings Suspension Components..

I planned on getting the complete suspension bushing kit so this is good news. For the price of all new steering components, I'm able to get a complete suspension bushing kit and just replace the boots. Order is on the way with free shipping and no tax for 165.30.

I any one else is thinking of getting this kit, be aware that it only comes with two tie rod end boots. I ordered and extra set.

+1, I think this is what I did when I went to new stiffer bushings.

i always just replace the tie rod end itself. depending on what end you have, original or aftermarket, the boot could be held on my a metal clip or a spring. check with the supplier and see if the kit comes with a replacement boot spring or clip.

Got a box of them sitting on the bench waiting to install. Probably won't tackle them until after JCCS next weekend though, as I don't want to disturb anything when I may not have time to returb it again.

Look easy enough to put on. Material is stiffer than the rubber boots, but not by a whole lot. Much more flexible than, say, a sway-bar bushing's urethane.

No clips or springs involved far as I can see - none came with them. They appear to just lock to a groove on the tie rod end.

I've had a serious lack of tuits lately, especially round ones. Til I get a round tuit, they have to wait.

Got the complete Energy Suspension bushing kit in today. My bushing project will have to wait also. I'm redoing the complete braking system. Powder coating and rebuilding the calipers, backing plate, non-contact areas of the rotor, new bearings, and all the little hardware pieces. I also have the RB braided brake lines that my wife got me back in 2004.
