Any way to put a child seat in back?
Now that I'm a new father, I'm looking for a way to carry a kid in the back. I know that 2nd gen has a 2+2 option--which everyone complains is good only for kids:) --but is there any way to put a child seat in a 1st gen? Thanks.

1st gens had a back seat option in japan-land too. YOu can find the setups every once in awhile. look up FDnewbie on the board, hes the guy to go to for jdm parts.

I was thinkin about the exact same thing!!! I wonder if you can fit a second gen back seat in my SA?
|
Do a search... i think the 2nd gen seats will fit.

i carted my son around in the back of my FB for his first 4 years with no back seat. get a child seat that is internally bolstered and supported. make sure it has straps with anchors. run the anchors from the bottom of the seatbelt bracket to the bolt holes in the center support of the FB. then run the rear anchor to the shock tower, or to one of the anchors in the back for securing items. WASP said this was just fine as long as it was properly anchored and the seat was rated for standalone use.

Backseats are great for kids. Its like a built in booster seat in a way.

yes we have rear seats in the UK becasue they are shaped so low i dont use a booster seat but i suppose you could use a baby seat, i did have to put a lap belt in though as they were not fitted as standard
i have 2 sets of rear seats spare after getting a complete leather set (thing they were produced in the US as a very expensive extra) only problem im in the UK! the rears from a gen 2 wont go straight in but i suppose anything is possible? Mark |
Can't you put the childseat on the passengerseat?
|
^ thats not legal. More importantly, it's not safe.

you own an rx7 and do not have an xtra car? i just switched my xtra car from a truck to a family sized 4 seater.. even when i owned 3rx 2 running well, i still had an xtra, for winter really, but still an extra.
safety first says no kids in rx till they can fit properly..... its just not known for its safety... |

Ahh ok then. It is overhere, if the childseat is facing backwards. That said, I would'nt wan't my offspring to be in a car with me, childseat or not :D Think about their potential loss of hearing :rlaugh: |
Thanks
Thanks everyone for the ideas. In partial response to some comments:
1. Yes, I suppose I need to consider what's legal. :( 2. Yes, it's a second car, but I still want to be able to take the whole family in a pinch; and 3. That's why I'm assuming that my wife may be in the front passenger seat instead of the kid. Thanks again! |
You can put a child seat in the passenger seat as long as their is no passenger air bag. The car seat has to be front facing and not rear facing.
|
i have a rear seat and it is more of a novelty item than a nessesity... but i feel your pain!! i have a now six year old boy that loves to ride with me... i am lucky that the wife hates my car so much she won't ride in it so it is just me and the boy anyway!!!

So as long as you have a front facing seat then it should be safe. It would be the same thing as having a child seat in the front seat of a pick-up truck. There are no airbags in our cars, and you can always mount the posts for the latch system so you aren't just depending on the seat belt to hold the seat properly.
