Antennae question

Did a search on antennea install and removal and came up with very little.

Somehow my antennea got knocked off (I might have gone through a car wash with it up....but that's another story). Now I'd like to just put in a stubbie mast antennea....how do I get the old on out?

Thanks in advance.

Remove the tail light, then pull it out through that hole. I found this out after I hacksawed my old motorized antenna, which is definitely doing it the hard way. :)

^^bongo. the only way to gain thorough access is to remove the right tail light assembly. this gives you near unrestricted access to the nuts that hold the antenna in place, the connector for the power antenna motor (providing it is a power antenna), and the antenna cable.

What antenna were you thinking of going with? I am looking for stubbies (Had one on one of my 240s) and can't seem to find a large selection anywhere.

I bought a cheapie Autozone black rubber (bout 12"), cost about $10. I actually like the way it looks and it picks up the Chicago (AM) stations pretty clearly form here in Milwaukee.
Went in pretty easy too...once I got the old mast & motor out.

Check out the Metra 44-UA46. It is 7" long and detachable. It comes with a 195" cord and it is a 3db booster also. Here is a link to the best price I can find on it. Just scroll down to the bottom of the section for Audi. There are a couple of others that are longer.

I have always wondered if there was a way to "stealthily" install an antenna, like use the defroster stripes or run a wire around the inside of the roof. I know some modern cars do this, but exactly how I am not sure. : /

Sorry that I missed the link in post #7. Here it is.

I remember seeing an add for a powered antenna (as in amplified) that mounted underneath the dash. It was supposed to perform great, according to whoever posted the info on it. That was a couple of years ago, so good luck finding the thread on it....

There is one listed on e-bay regularly that says that it will hide anywhere.

Found it, just Google "Crutchfield hidden antenna" and you'll find it. Great reviews, and a decent price at 30 bucks...

But can it pick up HD radio? LoL
Thanks Kentestu!
