another second gen oil cooler thread
 

I have an 85 GS. Basically can I both air/oil and water/oil coolers? I plan on taking off the pipe that goes from front case to block(where banjo bolt is) and in place of pipe put oil lines and 2nd gen oil cooler. That way i don't have to mess with pedistal and all that junk just leave it and have 2 types of oil cooling in series.
Also are threads on the oil cooler and the front cover the same? I think i read 16mm somewhere.

I'm sure it's possible, I just haven't see anyone do it yet! I have wanted to do this, becuase I don't see any reason to remove my beehive, and a little extra cooling couldn't hurt.

But when I posted about this someone mentioned that the air-oil cooler is so much better that the water-oil one might actually end up *heating* the oil more than cooling it. The way I see it, if you've got both, it's better than having one, and if they both can be attached with minimal effort, then go ahead.

You're gonna have to let us know what you find :)

the way i see it, i should get overall less temps because the water won't have to cool the oil per se. Plus the radiator is larger. I guess i'll just play around with it and see what i can find out. I'll be sure to take pics along the process
