Another new car. . . . Rotarize it?

A friend just gave me his 300 ZX (let's just say Tax/Debt to me purposes)

It's the one that looks a lot like our cars. I know NOTHING about it, and was wondering if it would be better to Rotarize it? I have a spare 12 A lying around, it runs (saw a RX sitting on the sidewalk with a forsale sign. Body was worse than mine, no carb, interior was missing seats, bought motor for $300. Assured that it runs). Would a Nissan like that benefit from the 12A? Or would I be better off leaving that little four cylinder (or whatever it is, I'm picking it up tomorrow) in there?

I think a rotary powered Nissan would be the ultimate cool (and a good thing to drive around while my RX is being a stupid ho)

They are V6 engines. Leave it alone..

Those are too heavy for an N/A rotary. I'd look into putting a turbo on it. I think those motors take boost fairly well.

keep the 6, they r nice cars, get to know them.

cdrad51 09-14-04 05:17 PM

sell it and use the $ to get your 7 up and running

jays83gsl 09-14-04 05:31 PM

I just may do that, but this car's running NOW.

cdrad51 09-14-04 06:03 PM

Yeah but it ain't no rotary now, is it? ;)

A) Get an estimate of exactly what you need to fix in the 7 to get it running.

B) Decide who are you gonna what from.

C) Then sell the car. You're driving the car until the day you get the $.

D) Then quickly use the $ you just got to get the car up and running using the data in A & B above.

Tada!

What year Z? It will weigh 700-1000 lbs more than your seven. My cousin had a turbo Z, it was a cool car, but I think my se could have taken it. Don't know though, never got a chance to take them to the strip.

Gregs 09-14-04 10:50 PM

a gsl-se is faster than an 88 turbo z automatic... ask me how i know ;)

jays83gsl 09-14-04 11:32 PM

I'm thinking it's 86. It has Datsun Badges, and I know there was only one year of 300 ZX with Datsun badges. Unless he bought them and put them on.

When someone brings up old debts you forgot about, and mentions free car for tax writeoffs, the only questions you ask are "is it running" and "when can I pick it up" lol

More news on it tomorrow, probably pics, too.

I always thought they were cool cars, I'd leave it how it is.. There's a junkyard near me that has one of those but it's the turbo model with everything intact. I bet that'd be a fun toy.

jays83gsl 09-15-04 03:41 AM

O_O I so want that turbocharger O_O

82SilverRX7 09-15-04 11:59 AM

I'll ask next time I'm there to see how much they want.. They're usually thinking they have pure T gold in their junkyard but they know me better so you have a fighting chance.

84 was the only year with Datsun badges. I had a pristine gunmetal with tan leather and only 35000 miles on the clock. Until I stopped for gas and it died. Turns out the timing belt idler bolt broke off in the block. Skipped teeth, bent valves. I let the car lot pick it up.

I loved that car as much as I love my 7. Bitches love T tops.

I have 3 of those turbos sitting on the shelf at the shop. They are JUNK. Just a plain T3. Stock psi is 6.

jays83gsl 09-15-04 12:51 PM

That's what this one is. And 84, Gunmetal, black leather, T-tops. Amost 150,000, pics coming when I can figure out what the hell is wrong with my camera.

jason_child 09-15-04 03:00 PM

a slightly modded 84 gs will take a 88 300z turbo 5 spd by about 1 car lenght i did with ful exhaust, header and a few other small things

jays83gsl 09-15-04 03:02 PM

So an Unmodded 83, could, in theory, take a 300 ZX N/A 5 speed?

This things right quick.

9d7gst 09-15-04 06:37 PM

My Z had great low end, but top end lacked. My friend had a non turbo Talon that would smoke my ass easy top end. He just had a KnN and a muffler.

One thing I did to make it faster was this: and its free.
On the intake box, where the filter is, there is a resonator before and a airhorn looking thing after. Take all of this off. Take just the airbox, flip it upside down and connect it back to the rubber hose where the resonator was. It made allmost a half sec difference at the track.

I dont think my 83 could have taken the Z.

Thanks for the advice
