air filter too short for velocity stacks?

i got a new K&N filter for my sidedraft carburater. its shorter than the old beat up one i had. between the outer plate, and the end of the velocity stacks. there is only about 1.5 to 2 inches of room after the end of the velocity stacks. is that enough?

That seems kind of close to me, what about using two smaller filters, one on each stack.

do this calculation:

1) measure the diameter of the intake throat
2) Take it's area = 3.14159*((diameter/2)^2)
3) Take the area of flow above the throat = (3.14159*diameter)*2"
4) Make sure all of your units are correct.
5) If (3) is larger than (2) you're OK, If it's close or less, you should use a taller filter.
