air conditioning relay ?

I can get my compressor clutch to engage only by jumping a wire to the + battery terminal.

The wire coming from the consul into the engine compartment that is supposed to activate the compressor is always negative despite pressing the a/c switch.

I think the a/c switch when pressed contacts the ground? Which activates a relay, which contacts a + to the wire that is supposed to be connected to the a/c compressor?? https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/scratchhead.gif

I'm about to run a wire/fuse/switch from the + battery terminal to the compressor.

There is also a pressure switch that only contacts when there is sufficient pressure in the system so as not to harm the compressor.

where is this switch?

In one of the lines usually, there are two types of rx7 AC setups, the factory stuff, and the dealer option kit. IIRC the pressure switch is in one of the lines right before they enter the firewall, although if you follow them it should be obvious.

Yes, it's a low pressure switch. On the GSL/SE or any p/s setup its located near the steering idler arm area. I forget where the switch is on the other type.

It's mounted in top of the accumulator in front of the radiator support. Also don't forget about the frost switch on the blower box. Wire goes in series through that switch too. Jumping the compressor will certainly end in doom :) it's designed to cycle to keep pressure about hose busting or frozen up evaporator core
