Aftermarket Wheel Options
 

What options are out there besides panasports for aftermarket wheels on an FB(stock size)? Something with not too many spokes like epsilons either. If there's an easy way for another wheel size, lets hear that setup too.

If its a gsl-se, then I know there are tons of options. Just do a Google search for "4x114 wheels". If not an -se, I think the pattern is 4x100

First off the pcd for non gsl-ses is 4x110 and the stock size is 13x5.5 except for LE wheels.

I like the Konig Rewinds in 15x7 size. They come with the right offset and work well. They are
minilite knockoff like panasports and look period correct.

I'm asking for wheels that don't look like panasports, so no konig rewinds or wantanabes either.

If you don't like the Rewind’s you are pretty much out of luck, nobody else makes an affordable and readily available wheel. Just check out eBay and wheels come up for auction from time to time.

It’s neither easy nor cheap but converting to 4X100 Miata wheels gets you into a huge variety of wide and cheap wheels…

What kind of wheels do you have in that picture? Is that the miata swap?

Get a 1" thick hub adaptor from 110 to 114.3 and get some Honda wheels. Then the sky is the limit to your wheel options. That's what I did.

The 1" thickness of the hub adaptor makes the Honda wheels have the same offset as our factory wheels.

Those are 15X9 Jongbloed Miata wheels with 245-40-15 tires. It takes quite a bit of fender banging to get those to clear.

Been looking at putting Konig Rewind on my stock 1985 GS, what tire sizes are recommended for this fitment. I do not want to cut fenders. I am not planning to lower car and well keep suspension stock????

If you don't like mesh or panasport wheels you're going to have a real hard time finding something you like. Swear Switching over to 4x100 or 4x114.3 will be the only way to get all the options you want.

The 195/50 would not have this issue, thats how minor it was.

I am currently on Racing beat springs with Konig rewinds and a 205/50r15 Falken. Fits great. I have enough fender clearance there are no issues. If i was a half inch lower, I would probably have to roll the fenders just a minor amount. I am also running -1.5 degrees camber though.

You can get the Diamond steelies in 4X110 pattern in 3 powder coat finishes.

Hey miasmicmonkey, how do you like those Racing Beat springs? I have been considering those for my car.
I'm running 195/50/15 Falken's on 15x7 BBS Mahle's, stock springs and shocks. So I can go lower no problem. Can you tell a difference in ride and the height?

My stock springs don't sag so my car isn't very low. I've read some people say the RB's raised their car because their stock springs were so worn they lowered the car.

Do you have any photo's on your profile of the car?

Here is my car with RB springs and 205-45 r16 wheel setup. The springs did raise my rear a bit' but I like the suspension response much better than my old, blown out springs. https://vid.me/an7X

Thanks old skool. That's about how my car sits now. Eventually it'll either be the RB springs or maybe T3 coil overs. They're just so expensive you exceed the value of the car, hahaha.

Yes Qingdao those wheels are sweet. That's what I was going to use but I found my current set up before commiting to the Diamond wheels.

I think the other thing worth mentioning is how different the sizes can be between manufacturers and even tire lines, especially when you get into sticky tires. Knowing the size cut offs for popular classes, don't be surprised to find 205's that fit like 225's.

I've run 205/50-15 ad08's that fit damn near the exact same as 225/45-15 rs-3's

What back spacing would be used for those Diamond rims to fit in a stock 1985 GS without fender mods?

I personally like them, but my car is driven on the streets for the most part. 80% of the time it is normal commute style driving. The other 20% it is backroads/mountain road fun. The rear on my car didn't drop as much as the front, but I am doing a GSL rear end conversion and will probably end up cutting a half coil off as I remember reading somewhere that RB is okay with up to 3/4 coil being cut off of the rear. These springs are not stiff enough for some, but for the price you can find a used set, they are very worth it. I spent $80 shipped here on the forum for a set from a guy who was unsatisfied with them for his Autocross car.

Here are a few pictures of how it looks now and I think at least one before the springs were added. Also before and after wheels and tires.

Oh, and I guess I forgot to comment on spring characteristics. My car did have bad struts in the front while the rears still had some life. I moved to KYB GR2 struts and shocks, which some say are bad and others say are fine. As quoted from KYB on a call with them in the past, most GR2 struts are supposed to be stiffer than stock to help counter worn bushings and springs. But for my driving, they seem to be a great match. It was good enough I kept up with a few 350z's in the mountains back in September. And I was told that most of them were running hard. Even made the RX8 behind me worried a couple of times. It brought light some changes I needed to make with my brake system so I am in the process of overhauling the brakes and swapping to a GSL rear. I could not have done that on stock springs and blown front struts which i had tried at the same even 3 years earlier. Now, I did not really give a chance to stock springs and new struts. The current setup is stiff enough I don't like speed bumps terrible much, but soft enough that cruising on the freeway and hitting nasty bumps there doesn't leave you jarred. Though it does make me say a word or two because it sounds like he double hockey sticks.

Thanks for the reply and photos. Yeah, I just drive my car on the street and my main thing is backroads and mountain driving. No autocrossing or racing. I've read several opinions on them over the years. It's always good to hear more. A lot of people say go with the coil overs but they are really expensive.

Cloud97, those Diamond steelies are a great wheel. If you search online you can find some pics of 7's running them. They're your best bet if you don't want the 8 spoke style (Minilite, Panasport, Watanabe) wheels. There are at least there are a few choices now. Since the 80's aftermarket wheels for 4x110 ceased production.

I'm in the same boat. I just bought some junkyard accord wheels (16#s) and If I'd seen these I might have gotten them instead. Oh well if I really want to go lighter I can get those integra wheels that weigh 12#s.
