Aftermarket Universal Radiators...

If I wanted to get a universal alluminum radiator from summit racing, or jegs, or somebody what size should I get to get it close to the right size? does anyone know how the universals mount? Would they mount on the side like ours do? Anyone know if an alluminum radiator is worth it?

You have a 1983 Right?

Radiators.com = $128.00 for a new replacement.

I went with a stock replacement on my GSL-SE for the Turbo project. I was told by several competent tuners that it would be more than enough, with my E-Fan.

How did you set up your eletric fan DF?

Mazdatrix mentions something in there radiator section about how the 84-85 radiators were designed to have the oil cooler mount under the radiator. Were the 12a's also built that way? or just the SE? It seem kinda silly that they would make 2 diffrent radiators. im asking because im shopping for a knew radiator and i want to add an air/oil cooler.

The 84 and 85 cars have a bracket in front of the radiator for the Air/Oil cooler...

Heres one thing I want to try or see if anyone's tried...

The performance 3 row core radiators are just a 1979-1982 radiator with 3 row cores in them.. same end tanks... But they're the short style and have the Air/Oil cooler under them.

The 1983-1985 radiators are Tall, but thin, the end tanks are only big enough to put a 2 row core in them.

What I wanna try is bring one old, short radiator and one thin tall radiator into a radiator shop. Tell them to use the tall brackets with the fat end tanks. Boom, tall 3 row core radiator for use with the 1984-1985 Body... Put in a T2 Air/Oil cooler where the GSL-SE one should go and you can cool the surface of teh sun.

yeah, but then you'd have to have the oil cooler in front of the radiator instead of underneath it. having the oil cooler in front, without ducting to force all air to it or nothing above it to block airflow, can cause the air to "avoid" the oil cooler entirely.

no thanks. i'll stick with the "short" radiator with the oil cooler hanging beneath it.
