I think those are cool. What did you do? It appears that they are the clear lenses only and used the led replacement bulbs that you can buy from a parts store. Is that what you did? Very nice, cool idea there.

2.0L 1st Gen 02-03-05 04:57 PM

I like those too! They look almost like Altezza's from far away.

Where can i get some clear lenses from?

Did they come on any certain models?

Keep the pics coming guys. Im getting some good ideas.

still workin on em....

soulja77 02-03-05 06:01 PM

go on ebay and search fro LED lightblubs

GEM 13B 02-03-05 07:06 PM

ok, ill give you a quick run thru on how i made em.
first pull off the outter cover carefully. you wil probably have to break or cut the parts where its joined (sorry for the poor description).
remove the red, orange and clear covers from inside the lights, they will just pop out, easy as.
for the lights i didnt use L.E.D. bulbs i used lights from a truck (the ones that go down the side) but if you wanna just use the globes go for it.
you will need to completely dissasemble the whole light and just take the backing to get chromed (for the altezza look, i didnt chrome mine, just used chrome spray)
once thats all done simply put it all back together and glue the outter cover back on...... simple ;)

lets see some pictures of these taillight abortions.

bkm_rx7 02-03-05 09:12 PM

I think we should all (or us northwest guys at least) remember IoTuS?

http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/255321

Hes got a full walkthrough (very detailed with pics even) on those clear tails that he made...i copied him...except i left the 1x1inch red reflector square in the middle of my tails...tell me whatcha think!

Gregs 02-03-05 09:36 PM

imo keep the taillights stock, or smoke em, the DIY clear lenses look cheap and obviously home made, (im refering to the removal of the red and orange lenses on the inside... geoff's taillights however are nice, but when i buy his car they are going back to stock :)

2.0L 1st Gen 02-04-05 01:40 AM

bkm_rx7, those lights are the best ive seen so far. He put a lot into them and it shows in the detail. I think thats the route im gonna take with my lights.
You know what would compliment those taillights...a carbon fiber "rear lens finisher" as mazda trix calls it. The piece that goes between the lights. I cant wait to start my little project.
Ill keep everyone posted.
Gary.
:)

Edit: I just saw the price for that piece of "plastic" "rear lens finisher"... $200! Mazda-trix is crazy. How many of those could they sell at that price.

d0 Luck 02-04-05 02:23 AM

what happened to "IoTuS" anyhow???

mcnannay 02-04-05 02:35 AM

^ got frustrated with his car and quit, hes trying to sell his car still (unless your really buying it greg?) Basically he could never dial in his tuning, and wasn't seeing the performance levels he should have the amount of money he put into it....

Max7 02-04-05 03:01 AM

Thats sad, I just hope his car goes to someone who will appreciate and take care of it as he did if he sells it. One fine example of a 7 :)

Directfreak 02-04-05 10:13 AM

If you buy it Gregs, I'll buy the taillights from you.

Speaking of lights, where does a person find headlights like those of MAX7's???? Those are bitchen'.

For taillights I was thinking of a set from an R32 J Spec, just for something different.
