Aftermarket Gauges - Any Suggestions?

After reading threads on temperature and oil pressure I am beginning to wonder about my factory gauges and am thinking about adding aftermarket gauges.

Simple questions: any suggestions as to preferred brand (or type); and, are there any particular brands to avoid?

Thanks for the comments - I've found this forum extremely helpful.

If you want to save some money, I've had good luck with my little Sunpro mechanical temp gauge, only $17 at autozone:

Even better, I picked up the same gauge the other day in the discount bin at an Advance Auto store, only $8.00! That one is going in my other GSL.

Since these gauges are mechanical they are immune to the electrical gremlins that often give confusing readings with the stock electrical gauges.

ProSport gauges are cheap and also quite accurate. I think the water temp gauge is like $50 from the website, and if you wanna buy the sensor pipe it's another $25. See pictures.

I've been quite pleased with the Autometer gauges in the widebody. They also have a wide range of faces to choose from.

With the water temp, stay away from unsealed/uncoated t-coupler. they are not realiable as it will pick up additional heat from the engine bay

i have an autometer oil pressure guage. it's i think 2.25", the one that goes to 200psi. i'd like a smaller one but all the ones i've seen only go to 100. my pressure is in the 85-95 range so i fear those gauges won't last long with that high of pressure all the time. i too have the sunpro mech temp guage. but i have the prob in the back of the w/p housing. ur actual guage choices will be limited to budget.

Autometer has a 150 psi gauge, I had to special order mine.

after checking the autometer site, the 200 psi oil pressure gauge i have is 2 5/8. didn't mention it before but it's also mechanical.

Keep looking, while it may not come in all styles, I have a 2-1/16", 150 psi one. My catalog lists them in the Sport Comp #3323, Phantom #5723 and the Ultra Liite #4323. All mine are Ultra Lites

I've got Sunpro mechanical oil pressure and temp gauges and I'm happy with them.

Checkout Defi. I have their boost pressure and fuel pressure gauges. They are high quality and come in a color that is similar to the OEM '85/85 cluster. There's a trim ring with a caution pointer that you can set to any point you want -- or you can leave it off.

Siraniko 08-03-08 08:38 PM

what quality???? they all contain parts that are made in china.

...also, for the Autometer oil pressure gauge, purchase the braided pressure line, I've had both the copper and plastic tubing break due to vibration....dropping oil pressure immediately....

rxtasy3 08-03-08 11:20 PM

i've been using the plastic tubing for yrs in the 808, now it's in the 7, without any problems. just had to replace the ferrels(sp) when making the transfer to the 7.
