Advice on using Lucas oil leak stopper
I have a 12A that has developed a front cover leak or oil shaft leak? It is not a dowel pin leak. I cannot see where it is coming from. It runs down from behind where accessories/pulleys mount and run down the passenger side of keg near front near where OMP was (OMP delete car).
Been thinking of adding Lucas oil leak stopper but concerned that this might cause another issue. Leaks about a quart between fill-ups. Don't really want to try to pull the engine until winter. Opinions??? |
The gasket that is leaking should be replaced. The oil stop leak stuff is just a band aid.

What weight oil do you run/what type of climate do you live in? I've seen many leaks with 10-30 stop entirely with 20-50, of course that's if your climate permits.

It sounds like it could be the front main seal. That would be pretty easy to fix.
I'd pull the engine to replace it though. I don't trust the "clutch in trick" to prevent the torrington bearing from falling when the front hub is removed. |

Have a buddy press and hold your clutch pedal to the floor at all times while doing the work. I once needed to swap a pulley hub and had someone press my clutch to the floor. Worked perfectly. |

Matco sells the tool described above. They call it a throttle depressor. Hooks onto the steering wheel and will depress any pedal you need. It also varies in pressure with an adjustable knob. Bought mine right off the tool truck. Fantastic tool! Looks extremely similar to this tol:
