Adjustable strut tops
Hello everyone
I'm looking for information about adjustable strut tops for Series 3 RX7's. Things like how much camber is achievable with the adjustable strut top using the standard spring and perch and how much is achievable with coil-overs? Also, does anyone know about modifying the lower control arms to make them adjustable in length to permit increased camber. Regards Ted |
to go backwards, the adjustable length lower arm is the factory method, and the amount of adjustability would kind depend on how you fab the arm, and what kind of rod end you buy, as unless you came across someones old stash, you'd have to make it yourself.
with the small diameter springs (technically the stock setup is coil over, as the coil of the spring is over the shock) and ground control upper plates on a straight car, you can get about -4 camber. i have never done a stock size spring and camber plate, nor have i used the Re speed camber plates, although i imagine they would do about the same as the GC setup |
will be ordering the respeed ones soon

Respeed camber plates with stock springs: I was able to get enough camber to tell the difference in races, but the spring interferes before you get as much as you want... Upgrade to coilovers and you get far more camber than you can realistically use. This is going to be the same with anyone's camber plates.
www.re-speed.com On the adjustable lower control arms, the downside is that any changes you make for camber will also result in toe changes. However, Bruceman has a set for sale in the parts section... ;) Overall, I think I prefer the camber plate approach. If you're serious enough to be considering camber changes, then you're probably serious enough that you should be looking into coilovers too. :) . |

If one wants to get carried away, and apparently I did, I came across not only the adjustable strut tops from ReSpeed, I also managed to score a pair of adjustable lower control arms and tension rods that I believe came from MazdaComp. Whenever I manage to get it to the alignment shop, the tech will be going, WTF.
