add coolant .... this aint cool
oh the joy of having my rx has been eventfull of surprises. after two good weeks of running "da beast" just wants to have its add coolant light come on. so i add fluid to the reservior tank & check the radiator. everything fluid level wise is fine. my main concern is if this will go away or just keep on haunting me. any info would be good......

well the sensor is right at the top, sometimes it will come on just from normal evaporation. I would imagine it is fine as long as you aren't experiencing massive coolant loss which I would then say was a seal.

OK I have a question my 82 RX will leak coolent sumtime 2 or three days after I drive it and sumtines it never leaks and other times it just leaks after sitting for two weeks. The coolent puddle is usely under the transmishon. I'm having trouble finding the leak. I now the hoses and stuff kneads to be replaced
but I'm wondering if it could be a normel problem or a water pump leak thanks for any and all help |
If the coolant level is going down it can also be because a bolt on the bottom of the engine (used to drain coolant out of the block) is loose, this will let coolant out slowly.

Yeah, my coolant sensor was tweaking out about a week ago. It was coming on when the rad was full, but never came on when my water pump went out and I lost half my coolant...Weird.
I need to fix that sensor, the low oil sensor, whatever that other sensor on the oil pan is...Jeez. It just adds up more and more :). ~T.J. |

Oil level is the one with 3 bolts holding it on. The brass hex is for the sub zero start assist.

Could be air bubbles. The coolant low sensor is higher in the radiator than the filler dude... Fill your coolant, warm it up, and loosten the sensor till a little coolant comes out... Then put it back in.
|
Maybe trapped air. I have to burp the cooling system after replacing coolant. I just start it up cold with radiator cap off and the heater on, add water as the level goes down. Keep going until its warm. Trapped air CAN be dangerous to your motor because the pump may cavitate, thus ending circulation.
BTW, never remove rad cap while engine is hot, as this will reduce pressure and allow coolant to boil, thus robbing sensitive engine areas of temp stability and allow it to heat up drastically, perhaps warping things. B |

wait, the subzero sensor is the bottom one on the rad? hmmm, guess I'll yank it since my sub zero bottle is long gone.

Smack me if I'm wrong, but the low oil sensor is on the oil pan. Oil level is the one with 3 bolts holding it on. The brass hex is for the sub zero start assist. wait, the subzero sensor is the bottom one on the rad? hmmm, guess I'll yank it since my sub zero bottle is long gone. ~T.J. |

No, I think thats the #1 water temp switch for the emissions computer. Why would we have a fan switch on a car with a mechanical fan?
|
I used a 2nd gen sensor for the coolant level sensor on top of the radiator. Works better. The plastic seems stronger, or maybe it was because the original was so old...

dammit, i'm just gonna go rip it all out and hope it starts when i turn the key, sheesh, so man friggin sensors.
