Accelerator cable
Prior to rebuilding the carb in my 1979 RX7 I decided to remove the carb, replace it, and make sure I could get it started again. Everything went fine except for the accelerator cable - it seems like it picked up about 3 inches in length. There is so much slack in the system that the accelerator pedal has no effect, you can floor it and the engine just keeps idling. I have the adjustment nuts all the way to the end so I don't know any other way to take up the slack. Am I doing something wrong, or does anybody have any ideas?

there are 3 cables. are you sure you used the right one?

Yep, it's the accelerator cable all right. Choke cable is hooked up and works properly. The hot start cable has never been hooked up since I got the car, and it's still lying to the side.

maybe the cable snapped

My accelerator cable would slowly get slack in the cable, because my carbuerator linkages were bending, might check that.

OK, for future reference - the problem was I was trying to connect the accelerator cable to the hot start lever. I finally located a diagram of the carburetor and figured out the problem. Thanks to all who replied.
