Acceleration Issue On My '85
 

I bought my '85 12A about November of last year from a guy who had it sitting for about 4 years. Minimal rust, mint interior, paint is awesome. Transmission was bad. Drove it an hour back and there was a horrendous sound coming from the right front tire, turns out it was the idler arm so I had that changed AFTER I had to put all new brakes on it because the calipers were literally rusted to the thing. Wheels wouldn't budge when in drive. Anyways, I will be driving down the road going about 45-60 and when I hit the brake or even just slow down I have to come to a complete stop before I can accelerate again. I changed the fuel filter, ran some Sea Foam through the tank, and put in a new transmission. I'm at a loss, but my gut feeling says it's something with the carb. Does it just need adjusted? Was going to check the hoses this weekend for any leaks. This is my first rotary but I've relentlessly Googled and read all over for info, so I like to think I know a decent amount. But I'd rather fix and learn things about/on my car myself than take it somewhere and have someone else do it for me. Any assistance would be appreciated.

You need to do these things:

1. Replace fue filter
2. Make sure all the fuel lines are clear
3. Verify that the fuel supply at the carb is sufficient (simply see how long it takes to pump a gallon of gas up)
4. Rebuild the carb. You either have some clogged passages or a vacuum leak.

I say do all that because its been sitting for 4 years and all this stuff gets affected by the
crappy gas we now all have to deal with. In that time the tank will have sludge, it will clogged
filters (possibly causing bypass), the gunk gets to the carb and causes more issues. The carb
probably has gunked up passages from sitting that long as well.
