I think so.. don't remember... all I remember is he was in the all motor class and he kicked some serious ass.

agentorange 05-16-04 12:48 PM

That's just insane... who needs pistons with a 13B like that!!!! :worship:

Jeff20B 05-16-04 01:08 PM

Heh, this shows how flawed Honda thinking is. :)

Tx_antonio 05-16-04 03:48 PM

I hate how NHRA has to add "rule changes to further tighten competition". just let cars race cars. don't make them add weight and subtract from others just because the others cannot keep up. Hey how bout this restriction next.........If you have a bad ass rotary...put a stack of nickels under your pedal.....that way Hondas can have some sort of a chance. Thats what all the other "rule changes to further tighten competition" sound like to me. Just sounds like sore losers complaining so much that NHRA had to finaly say something. Its not our fault that our cars are lighter, faster, more responsive, better looking......sound better...........ect.

Junia 05-16-04 03:52 PM

NHRA Sport Compact Honda All Motor Class. Yeah, they keep crying about his car. Its not even tubbed out and the interior looks pretty stock. The other guys are probably getting alot of pressure from there sponsors and whatnot because they have a guy out here without any big sponsor backing him, kicking the crap out of the big $$ cars.

Tx_antonio 05-16-04 04:07 PM

I did not know that it was in a Honda class...but they use these rules in every class. I just do not like when some one says "hey your cars to fast, do "this" so I can keep up with you." Hell the honda was runnin with wheelie bars for more traction. seems like he would have the advatage. I bet that Honda was runnin with more power too. That would suck to have a forty thousand dollar honda and loose to a two thousand dollar n/a 71 cubic inch first gen (not saying his cost that little just trying to make a point)

hornbm 05-16-04 05:51 PM

This is really good news. I was worried that since he didnt have his 20B anymore, he woulnt be able to keep up. I'm glad I was wrong. They cant really do much to him other than ban rotary motors all together, and that couldnt happen. Theres a big enough rotary community for there to be a HUGE backlash against the NHRA.

Richard Miller 05-16-04 06:31 PM

this reminds me of when the turboed gys were first hitting in the 9's. exciting times people!

YapaKanichi 05-16-04 06:46 PM

I think it's funny when a kid with an integra come in to my work (advanced auto) and he's like yea I got a intake and exhaust and it's so fast cause it's lowered so I can take turns faster. I just laugh at him and tell he's wasting his money and get a rotary, then I get that "whats a rotary look" funny funny

hornbm 05-16-04 08:41 PM

You honestly tell him hes waisting his time and get a rotray??

Thats one thing I really try not to say to people bcause I hear it from V8 guys all the time like "you got yourself a rotary? Dont waste your time, get some american muscle under that hood" It really annoys me, even after I win.

YapaKanichi 05-16-04 08:51 PM

nah I just tell him I can beat him. But they understand lol. they truly do.

hornbm 05-16-04 08:55 PM

thats fine just dont use the whole wasting time/money line. Make sure they know you can beat them!

YapaKanichi 05-16-04 08:57 PM

nah I don't tell them their wasting their money

Jeff20B 05-17-04 12:04 PM

Honda thinking is so deranged. Next they'll ban the 13B.

85rotarypower 05-17-04 12:18 PM

I bet he could make that engine faster too. He just wants to keep it a little slower so that they don't ban the 13B. If this keeps up, he won't even be able to run a rotary. I see in the future rotaries being totally banned from all sportsman drag racing. I bet with a good 20B, he could go into the high 7's with that car. If he's doing high 9's with a 13B, then the 20B would be FAST! Rotaries are already banned from some classes. Not sure which ones, but there are a few. I think one might be Pro Outlaw RWD. They can use turbos in that class, and a 20B PPort with a big single turbo would do easy low 7's.

Jeff20B 05-17-04 12:38 PM

I guess I don't see a point in pandering to the rule makers. Banning an engine because it's too good? What kind of crack are they smoking?

I'll admit that when the Hondas starting getting really competative a few years ago, I developed a bit of respect for them. Getting a FWD into those kinds of numbers was impressive. But now they're trying to ban a RWD car that was put into their class for some reason (too much crack?) just because it can do the job with so little effort, cost, HP, etc compared to them – I'm at a loss.

Beating them at their own game shows how futile their efforts really are. FWD is flawed wheel drive.

Goopy 05-17-04 01:45 PM

Yea..NHRA has NOT been to friendly to Rotary Drag racers or OLD school import racers in the past few years.

Here in the east coast we have had Rotary VS Piston drag races at Atco raceway since the early 90's, that I can remember and went to. (I’m sure that there were earlier ones to)

In those years Honda drag racing was unheard of.. it was all Mitsubishi conquest 2.6 turbo motors, Toyota corolla 3TC 1.8 (pushrod), Rotary Engines and few others smashing records with little or no sponsorship money. Then NHRA stepped in and started to change things thus ruining the fun of the sport.

Mr Paddila (Mec Kilo) in those years was still in Puerto Rico tearing up drag strips.
He will definitely get resistance from NHRA people in the future, but it will be mostly from Honda aftermarket manufactures that will put pressure on the NHRA.

Check this ..there is a 1986 Toyota Corolla from Puerto Rico called Felo Racing that ran 9.2 with a 3TC pushrod engine on Weber carbs and juice back in 1992 ..yes no microtech, haltech, FI, etc.. Today they run turbo and are into the low 7.70’s but imagine if they returned to the NHRA all motor class. Honda people would probably get wally parks to get rid of all rotary and pre90 cars.. LOL LOL

Jeff20B 05-17-04 02:11 PM

Heh, I don't doubt it. Wah, all the aftermarket Honda garbage is so unnecessary. The Fast and the Furious wasn't a documentary. You can't even drift with FWD (not that I really care, but I may get into it when my car is done)!

Whatever little shred of respect I had for Hondas has disappeared within the last few months due to this NHRA half witissism (is that even a word?). Whenever I see any Honda with any sort of aftermarket... anything on it, I just have to laugh.
