89-91 TII Trans Mount Picture Request

Hey guys, searched for a while but couldnt come up with a single picture that still linked... If anyone has a picture or a How to, it would be appreciated... I'm so close to finishing it makes me want to cry! Yay turbo Fb's!

luiml73 02-02-04 02:33 AM

I think www.turbofb.com has some pics.

luiml73 02-02-04 02:36 AM

I think www.turbofb.com has some pics. I think Directfreak posted some pix also. Anyway's you're in luck because my car is in jackstands waiting for my wheels to arrive. I'll get under the car tomorrow and take some pix of my rig. I mean setup:D

eddierotary 02-02-04 03:10 AM

trans mount is a 3/4 inch thick steel bar on top of the FB tranny's crossmeber. well that what i used :D

edit: BTW in rex4life tread about his turbo FB shows the tranny with the mount and everything

CheddaKing 02-02-04 04:42 PM

This is a series 5 Transmission, so the 3/4" steel bar trick wont work... The tranny mount bolted into the transmission at an angle, so i cant just stick a steel bar in there, although i wish i could. Also, if there are/were pics on turbofb.com, I couldnt find/link to them.

Not sure if this will help, but I got home late and had to take the pics at night.

I have a S5 engine, but I don't remember if my Tranny is S4 or S5. I did'nt even know there was a difference. The engine came from japan with a auto/tranny, but I told the company to give it to with a manual.

I never bothered to ask what year the tranny was. All I cared was that it was a T2 tranny.

Here is how I rigged it. It works fine with no vibration.

i didnt knew that the S5 tranny were different that the S4

CheddaKing 02-03-04 10:34 AM

I'll take a picture today of how the trans is different, and luiml, thanks a lot for the pics but i think its an s4 Still, the effort is very much appreciated!

JIMMY54 02-03-04 02:05 PM

The difference is that the S4 has the mounting bolts on the bottom (flat) part of the Tranny while the S5 has them angled like the picture above, along with that one bolt throught the middle. So that is an S5 tranny ( i have the same one)

CheddaKing 02-19-04 10:28 PM

Sorry, I've been busy on the interrior of my car and kinda forgot about the trans... But I still dont see how the pictures above are an s5 trans, it looks like an s4 to me. Look at my pics...(Car thrown in just for fun, but thats all ill show of it until its finished)

Am i Missing Something? The tranny looks different to me... or am i just crazy? could be...

CheddaKing 03-30-04 11:34 PM

I'm Reviving one of my old threads because of a new problem...combined with the exsisting old one above, sorta.

Basically, I put the motor in today, slotted the bracket, everything looked peachy... until the transmission decided to be way past the shifter opening... what gives? I thought no cutting was required?(Car is an '85) Here are some pics to confirm what I'm talking about...

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...1/f92cd16a.jpg

It's a solid 1/2" off... I have no problem cutting but i thought i didnt have to, any ideas on what i may be missing?

CheddaKing 03-30-04 11:44 PM

oops

S2-13BT 03-31-04 12:45 AM

T2 trannies need to be shortened about 100mm to line up properly. I believe Setzep had some info from when he modded his. I'm sure a search will turn up the info.

Basically you shorten the shifter rod and drill a new hole in the side, then use a 1st gen extension housing to get it all in the right spot. Look for the post by Setzep though, cause it explains it better.

BTW, any pics of your gearbox mount?

luiml73 03-31-04 12:46 AM

I had to cut also.

BTW..... Ur tranny looks just like mine.

Edit: I just took a look at your pics again, and I don't think my shifter was that far back. I'll take some more pics so you can compare.

Edit Again: Just took another look at the pics and now I think the trany's are different:confused:

Directfreak 03-31-04 01:59 AM

That doesn't look like *any* TII tranny to me.

The ribbing on the sides looks completely different.

Maybe you have an N/A one?

CheddaKing 03-31-04 08:27 AM

See, this is what I was afraid of... Wrong tranny...

The weird thing is I ordered parts for a S5 TII Trans and they were Def'n the right parts, maybe JDM is slightly different?

Also, the Trans isnt bolted up yet, because of this problem.

If it was a N/A Trans, how could I tell? Wouldnt the Turbo Flywheel not fit? Is it possibly a Third Gen Trans? Would a third G even bolt up?

Directfreak 03-31-04 09:54 AM

JDM Trannies are the same as US Trannies. Only exception is the JDM Turbo Automatic Tranny, which wasn't available here.

Not sure about the FD Tranny part.

The S4 and S5 TII trannies are very similar on the outside. Only difference is the tranny mounting point and closer ribs on the side.

I really have no Idea what you have there.
Maybe it's an RX-3,4 or RX-5 tranny?

Hopefully, someone with more knowledge could chime in and help.

Jeff20B 03-31-04 01:06 PM

It partially looks like an old ribcase tranny (just a little bit).

S2-13BT 03-31-04 05:32 PM

Only series 5 trannies had the angled mounting points on them. S4 and earlier had the flat mount.

It's not a third gen trans. The mounted completely different because the engine was rear mounted. They also have provision for the long solid brace from the box back to the diff.

Can get a photo of the whole box?

CheddaKing 03-31-04 05:37 PM

I will take a photo of the whole thing tomorrow, as well as try and find some sort of VIN number on the trans.

CheddaKing 04-05-04 05:10 PM

?I should really wuit promising tomorrow... anyways, here are some better pics, including the only numbers i pulled off the trans, how these will cue someone!

well does your FB shift knob fit the shifter that belong on that tranny? If it does than its an S4, S5 has different shifter. But it looks just the like S5 T2 tranny that i got (atleast i was told its a t2 tranny......)
